Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

First and foremost, I would like to wish all our grandfathers and fathers, HAPPY FATHER’s DAY!

As your pastor, I would like to tell you how much we love and appreciate you. You are very special. You are the leader of the family and also the priest of the household. On top of that, you are also the provider of the family. Very often, you sacrifice a lot of your desires to meet the needs of the family. I guess we never appreciate you enough. Most of the time, people say it is your responsibility after all and all these are expected of you. I don’t think that is right. Therefore, this week, I want to tell all our fathers that you are truly our heroes.

Thank you for giving so much into our lives. Thank you for all your love and your sacrifices. Thank you for all the hard work that you have put in. Without you, we won’t be able to enjoy what we have today. Sometimes when you do not express yourself, we blame you for not being emotional. I think that is not very fair to say that of you. I have to learn to express my gratitude. Dad, I want to tell you that you will always have the #1 place in my life. I am sorry when I hurt you and said all those nasty things to you. You don’t deserve them yet you never stopped loving me. Dad, you are amazing.

I pray that God will continue to bless you with good health and fulfillment in life, be it at home, in church or at work. I pray that you will enjoy all the fruits of your labor. I pray that God will cause His face to shine upon you. I pray that you will be happy all the days of your life. I pray... that the peace of God will be with you – always.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

Hi! How are you doing? I pray that you have had a good week. I have had a superbly, crazily busy week. After our memorable Church Wide Prayer Meeting on May 31, I left for Auckland to speak at Encounter Christian Centre’s Breakthrough Conference. It was very good because the presence of God was just so strong. On the first night, I preached on how to usher in the presence of God into our lives and our meetings. The young people responded very positively to the message and right after that, we saw 70 of them responded to the altar call! Hallelujah! The next couple of days I taught them how to be relevant in their universities and their workplace. On the final night, I shared with them the journey of our new church building. They were so excited to see what God is doing in our midst. The conference was amazing but the trip home was not. It took 11 hours and 30 minutes to reach! I never realize the journey could be so long. I slept and ate and slept and ate... :(

I came home on Tuesday night and went straight to inspect the site. Things are coming up really fast. I really need all of us to pray for the punctual completion of our new church. We are just 51 days away from moving into our new HOME! Hallelujah!

June is the month for all of us to recalibrate ourselves in the LORD. It is a month for us to strengthen ourselves and tie up all the loose ends. A time to work on our core strength.

Come July, all our CHCKL engines must get cranking again. I want to ask all of us to go all out to reach out to our family and friends, do follow-ups, invite them to church and disciple them. The past 9 months we have grown deeper... and now, it is time for us to enlarge our spiritual capacity to grow stronger and larger.

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

Hi! How are you doing? I pray that you are blessed and well as you come to worship God with us this weekend. It is just so good to have you here with us. If you do need anything, please feel free to speak to any of our staff and leaders.

This weekend, I am not around as I will be speaking at Breakthrough Youth and Young Adults Conference in Auckland, New Zealand. This is a conference organized by Encounter Christian Centre and Ps. Brent Douglas is the Senior Pastor here. I came here last year to speak at their church and was greatly inspired by the move of God in this place. Ps. Brent is a man very sensitive to the move of the Holy Spirit. I always find myself recharged sitting under his ministry. I’ll be back in Kuala Lumpur next Wednesday, June 8. The following day, I will be off to Sibu to speak at another youth conference organized by Ps. David Ngu. This is their Emerge. Please pray for me as I have to travel quite a fair bit and pray that God will move in the hearts of all these young people. I will be back on Saturday, just in time for our service. I know it is going to be great and I can’t wait to be with all of you again.

On another note, apart from being really busy with the construction of our new church building, I have been spending many sleepless nights writing our church’s 10th anniversary commemorative book. It is very demanding but therapeutic at the same time as I recall all of God’s mighty works in our midst. The last decade has been amazing. Every day is filled with the grace and the goodness of God. I pray that as you flip open the book and read the stories of all our leaders and members, you will be inspired, you will be touched and you will be encouraged to run and keep on running for the LORD. It will be ready soon. So, make sure you grab copies for yourself, your family and your friends. It is going to bless your life.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

Hi! How are you doing? I pray that you are blessed and well as you seek to serve God in all that you do. My family and I are well, though busy and tired at times.

So what have I been busy with? Of late, not just myself, but my entire office is busy with the construction of our new church building. There is just so much to do, so many decisions to make and so many designs and drawings to look into. We have to coordinate with the different contractors and make sure that they are doing the right thing. Apart from that, we also have to make a lot of technical decisions like how big the screen ought to be, what kinds of microphones to be used and also on the fire fighting system. It has been a very steep learning curve for all of us as we have never done this before. And this is only the construction phase. We still have the aesthetic part of the building to work on, like what furniture to be used, what kind of lighting, finishing and a host of other stuff! PHEW! The list is endless! But I am truly honored to have such a great team working with me. Though tough, they have made the journey more fun and enjoyable! Thanks guys!

Apart from this, I have also been very busy writing our church’s 10th anniversary book. I have spent hours digging into the history of our church and spent even more hours writing them. It has been a very tedious process but worthwhile nonetheless.

And as I look back at the past decade, I have just so much to be thankful for. I want to thank all of you; my leaders and members for being who you are, giving the best years of your life to God and making this journey such an unbelievable ride!

I owe it to God and you for this opportunity to shape our generation!

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

WOW! I am sure all of us have had an awesome week, especially last weekend with Bro. John Avanzini. He is indeed a prophet. He taught the Word of God so clearly and at the end of his sermon, the power of God was just so strong that all of us have had an increased measure of faith. I was challenged. I increased my pledge many times more. But I believe as we learn to stretch our faith, God will see to it that our lives continue to grow from strength to strength and from glory to glory. As your pastor, I am so proud of you. I am so inspired by your sacrifice and your commitment. Let’s pray that God will continue to increase us as we strive to build His house and do His work here on earth.

This week, I would like to share with you a little update on our church building. In about 3 months’ time, our new church building will be completed. Let’s pray for the safety and efficiency of all the workers as they are doing a great work unto the LORD. After that, we will need another month or so to test and commission all the equipment. This will take some time as we make sure that everything is working properly. At this point of time, we are hoping to have our first service at the end of July! WOO HOO! It will be a celebration of God’s goodness and faithfulness after 7 years of Arise and Build since we moved to our current building. The journey has been one challenging one, but faith-filled nonetheless. Amen!

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your unceasing support and love for the house of God. Many of you have given your savings, postponed your holidays, chose to live with less and a lot more... but I pray that God will continue to increase and multiply you. I pray that He will continually use us as a vessel to bring forth His glory and His saving grace.

Dear family and friends,

Welcome back to church once again! It is simply wonderful to see all of you come in droves to worship God this weekend! I trust that your week has been good.

First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Dr. Peter J. Daniels and his lovely wife, Robina into our midst. It is truly our privilege and honor to have such an amazing man of God to come and speak into our lives. I believe all of you would be blessed beyond your imaginations. Therefore, do come prepared, come expectant to receive fresh revelations from God that may shape you into Christ-likeness.

On another note, I would like to thank all of you for working so hard last weekend during all our Easter services! All of you leaders, members and crews were just simply amazing! Well done, guys! So proud to have you in the team! More than 3000 people came to church but more importantly 121 people gave their hearts and rededicate their lives back to Jesus! Hallelujah!

And now that the services are over, the real work has just begun. I do not want us to just have very good services and powerful altar calls... but rather, I want our church to have a very strong and large heart to reach out and disciple all our new friends. It is good to see our friends coming to Christ but that is not enough. We want them to remain faithful to Him. We want to see them grow in their walk with God. So, may I encourage you to be a friend to them to kick-start this journey of faith with them.

Lastly, I also want to thank all of you for your understanding during those super sardine-packed services. I am sorry that some of you could not come into the church. I hope that this problem will be solved when we move into our new building in July. Thank you once again... for your love, dedication and understanding.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

Hello! It is so good to have you all back at church again. I pray that your week has been amazing and wonderful.

By the time you read this, my family and I are already in Sydney. I will be speaking at Presence Conference, Central City and C3 @ Oxford Falls in the next couple of days. This is probably the largest conference that I have ever been invited to. So, please take some time to pray for me as I truly covet it. I hope to be able to send you guys some updates every now and then through Facebook or Twitter. Do check them out if you are free...

And it is already the month of April. So much have happened and so much more is going to take place... most of everyone I know is running on full steam so may I encourage you to spur each other on to keep running and keep on keeping on. This race is so faith-stretching but I believe it is going to shape us, enlarge us and satisfy us when we see the fruits of our labor.

So, what is this that I can be a part of, you may ask? Well, you can certainly help out in the setting up of the Audio, Video and Lighting equipment in the new building (Look for Yee Wen or Zia Hau), help out with some cleaning and tidying (Gordon), invite friends to our opening (ZS), and perhaps one of the more pressing needs now is to help out in the preparation of our 10th Anniversary Coffee-table book entitled TEN – for this you can look for Gillian. :)

I think the coming months are going to be crazily busy but extremely fulfilling. So, let’s roll up our sleeves, cut down some sleep and put our hands on the plough.

Let’s make 2011 the year where we leave an indelible mark in the history of City Harvest Church, Kuala Lumpur.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

How are you doing? I pray that this mail finds you blessed and well. It has been a while since I last wrote in this column. Of late, I have had my wife to share what is in her heart and my some of staff have also decided to take turns to write, giving our weekly church bulletin a breath of fresh air. And I think it is great!

I love CHANGE! Change is important in our lives because it motivates, or rather, forces us to adapt to new environments so that we may move on to the next level. The challenge is that sometimes we are so comfortable where we are at that we are not willing to move. Friends, I want to encourage you to keep going, to keep moving. If we allow the mundane things in life to run our lives, we may lose the passion to live this life to the fullest. It will kill off whatever zeal that is on the inside of us. Don’t stay where you are at. Take a little step today and move on!

And since I am on this note, I want to encourage all of us to prepare ourselves for the BIG MOVE! WOO HOO! I want to thank God for allowing us to use this place for the last 6 years. From a small group of only about 150 people, we are now a family of almost 1800 people! Hallelujah! We have grown! As such, I want to ask all of us to keep praying as we prepare ourselves to move. Prepare yourself physically to serve as there will be tons of new things to do. Prepare yourself spiritually as we need a bigger spiritual capacity to saturate the place with the presence of God. Prepare yourself mentally as we will need to make a lot of decisions as we expand each of our ministries.

I believe God is going to bring about a new wave of growth to our church. But for now, strengthen all the relationships that we have with one another so that when new family and friends come to our church, we have the capacity to minister to them!

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone Gong Xi Fa Cai one more time. In another 4-5 days’ time, we will finish celebrating this year’s CNY and I am sure all of us have had a lot of food and fellowship with family and friends. And that is most wonderful. However, now that the holidays are over, we need to learn how to get back into the working or studying rhythm as quickly as possible. Beginning this week, we must hit the gym, eat properly and make sure all our goals are on track.

By the way, we have almost finished the first 2 months of 2011 and that is already 1/6 of the year gone. So, please do not waste anymore time. No more procrastination. Get straight into the things that you have planned to achieve for this year. And balance is the key. Be sure to allocate time for God, family and others and set aside finances for the work of God, family and yourself. Don’t overspend. Don’t get into debt.

God has given us the freedom of choice only do not use this liberty for our personal gain. Spend time serving others. Use some of your hard earned money and be a blessing to others. I believe this is what being a Christian is all about – constantly seeking new opportunities for the betterment of others’ welfare. Having said all these, I am not trying to imply that we cannot enjoy ourselves. God wants us to enjoy the fruit of our labor. He wants us to celebrate our achievements. So, once again, BALANCE is the key.

I am sure when we learn to live like this, we will live a truly meaningful and prosperous life.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

WOW! 2011 is finally here!!!

First and foremost, I would like to wish one and all a very happy and blessed new year! What better place should we be in than being in the house of God on the first day of the year! Like it or not 2010 is history. It is not going to come back again. Let’s not look back and regret but instead reflect on the lessons that we have learnt and grow stronger in this brand new year. I always love new years! It signifies change, a brand new start, fresh hope, and renewed strength. It is always at the turn of a new year that new energy is being injected into each one of us.

However, I want to inspire all of us to keep on keeping on and maintain the momentum all the way through. It means nothing to just have a great start but fail to keep up with it, say, 3 months into the year. This journey called life is not a sprint. 2011 is not a 100-metre race but a marathon instead. So, I want to encourage everyone to maintain a healthy pace. Keep on running. Sprint but not all the time. We need to last the distance.

In this brand new year, prepare yourself well. Make clear your goals. Know where you are heading. Focus on loving God and building lives. Focus on what is eternal. Very often people are stuck with the temporal. Their focus is only to make more money. We should aim for significance instead of just a healthy bank balance. We should aim to restore and build.

All of us have had many chances to do this right. So, let’s make it right this time round. Start the new year strong and clear. Begin with a right mindset. Keep on running with a great attitude. Once again, focus on what matters.

Dear Family and friends,

Merry Christmas!

Welcome to City Harvest Church! Thank you so much for taking time to celebrate Christmas with us. It is truly an honor for us to have you here. This Christmas, we have specially prepared a drama for all of you entitled Pins and Needles and I trust you will enjoy it. We have services from Thursday all the way to Sunday morning so do invite your family and friends along to enjoy this drama. I hope you will have a memorable and a wonderfully unforgettable Christmas with us.

Christmas is a big season for all of us because we celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. His life changes all of our lives. He made it possible for us to live a life with purpose and passion. Because of Him, we can give. Because of Him, we can love. It is our desire and prayer at City Harvest that we can be a blessing to you. So, if you do need anything, please feel free to let us know. We want to do the best that we can to serve you.

On a normal week, we have 1 service on Saturday at 530pm and another one on Sunday at 10am. Apart from these, we also have cell group meetings that cater for all age groups all throughout the week. These small groups are designed for a greater in-depth study of the Bible and a deeper level of relationship building with one another. Through these, we hope to see our church grow larger and deeper at the same time.

Church is all about touching lives with the love of God. I pray that as we grow in Christ together, we will grow to be a greater blessing to our community at large.

Hello! How are you all doing? I pray that this mail finds you blessed and well. By the way, have you done all your Christmas shopping or you haven’t started yet? :)

Christmas is a busy season but I believe it is a busy season for very good reasons. Why? Because it is a time where our focus is on others, thinking about what to get for the people we love and care for. This year, I spent a lot of time with many of our leaders and members to just hear their life stories and do things with them. Apart from that, I also spent much time preparing personalized gifts for all of them. It can be tiring especially when we have so much to do but the satisfaction that we can get out of it is certainly worth it. Church, may I encourage you to THINK OTHERS this season and do things with love for the people we love. Amen?

Well, before I sign off, I want to tell all of you that PINS & NEEDLESS is just 4 days away! WOW! I am so excited! This year’s production is going to blow your mind away! There are just so many things to catch and there is one moment that you just cannot miss. I am sure you will need to come more than once to catch everything.. :) All the cast and the crew have been working super hard and they are super excited and eager to bring to life this story that will tickle your funny bones, put some tears in your eyes and warm your heart at the same time.

Come and join us! Bring your family along. I am sure you will not regret it. This Christmas let us get up close and personal with God and one another.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

Welcome to the last month of the year! Phew! It has gone pretty quickly, isn’t it? I pray that all of us will take every opportunity that we have left to make the most out of it. Let’s finish this last lap strong and leave behind a spiritual legacy for our next generation.

Unknowingly, I have been writing Pastor Writes for the past 9 years now. Almost every week, I would share a thought with all of you. Of course there were times I couldn’t do it due to travel and all but whenever I could, I never missed the opportunity to share my heart with you. And very often I may sit there not knowing what to write yet God never fails to impress upon my heart something and inspires me to write something encouraging to you. I guess one of the most precious lessons that I have learnt here is to keep persevering! The Bible tells us that if we want to wait for the perfect weather before we sow, we will never do it. If we want to wait for the perfect timing to do something, we will never get a chance to do so. The best time to do anything is NOW. It does not mean we should be reckless but we ought to get going, keep moving. Procrastination is like sitting on a rocking chair. It gives us something to do but it never gets us anywhere. Friends, let’s seize our days together. Let’s encourage each other to remain strong in the LORD. Let’s take time to fellowship, hang-out and pray with one another.

In our modern society, one of the most common words that we will always hear is BUSY. I don’t deny the fact that some of us are truly busy. But what are we busy with? Sometimes people can just be busy for themselves. Let’s not do that or we may get tired of always looking at this person called I, ME and MYSELF.

City Harvest, it is time to THINK OTHERS.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

Welcome back to church once again! It is so good to see all of you here. I hope you have enjoyed the little treat that we have provided for you. Now that we have reduced our weekend to only 2 services, I hope we can spend more time to hang out with each other and fellowship. On top of that, I also want all of us to take this opportunity to pray and minister to one another. I am sure this will be something that all of us will benefit from as we continue to grow our church from the inside out.

On another note, I would like to highlight to all of us that we have reached the last weekend of November! 2010 is coming to an end! What a year it has been! So much has happened... well, be it good or bad, I feel we should still give thanks to God for all that He has blessed us with. As a church, I want all of us to learn to be thankful. Be thankful for all that God has given to us and be grateful for His work on the cross! I believe this is one of the keys to release God’s breakthroughs over our lives.

A lot of people are struggling today because they fail to see the importance of this. Focusing on ourselves all the time is not going to help. That is why Jesus exhorts us to love God with all our heart and love our neighbor as ourselves. Our world begins to change the moment we begin to view and appreciate others more than ourselves. Church, let us grow to become a people-focused church. Let’s do all we can to make our world a better place to be. I am sure this is what Jesus wants us to do – to be his channel of blessings and agent of restoration.

As we still have one more month to go before 2010 comes to an end, let’s live this month to the fullest and shine for Jesus!

I am believing God with you that better days are still ahead of us.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

First and foremost, on behalf of all the Board members, I would like to thank everyone who has and will be pledging to the 5th Arise and Build from the bottom of my heart. It is through your spiritual support and financial generosity all these years that allow us to do what we are doing today. Our ministries did not just cope or survive. We thrive because of your unceasing love towards God and the house of God. For that, I want to thank you once again.

In the next couple of months, we will be busy designing and finalizing the drawing of our new building. After that, we will need to submit the drawing to our local authorities one more time for approval. All these may take a lot of time, effort and perseverance, thus I would like to ask all of us to pray and intercede on a regular basis.

Gather with your family and friends to pray, as we commit this whole project into the hands of God. Let’s also pray for God to send His angels to build a hedge of protection around our church and all of us. This is not an easy task. The devil is not going to cheer us on. It is going to be challenging at times. But I believe that as long as we stay together as one, we will build what He wants us to build.

Church, as we grow larger in size and older in age, let us not lose our first love and fervor for Jesus. We need to continually remind ourselves that we are doing all these because we seek to seek His Kingdom first. Our desire is to see God’s desires accomplished. Along the way, we will be blessed. And when that day comes, let us not forget that it is God who gives us the power to gain wealth - causing us to be a blessing to others.

And for that, there is a reason for us to Arise and Build!

Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

WOW! What a weekend we have had with Ps. Phil Pringle! I am sure all of you have been greatly blessed by his ministry. Let us learn to keep the Word of God in our hearts and allow a new measure of faith to grow within us. Amen!

And yes, this weekend is our Pledge Weekend for our 5th Arise and Build. This is probably one of the most exciting seasons in the calendar of our church. For the past 9 years, we have been giving to God without fail. Some of you, at different times had sacrificed a lot to see this vision come to pass. As your pastor and friend, I want to thank you for your love and commitment towards the house of God. It is my honor to have a family like you to do this together. The journey has been exciting. All of us have had our fair share of challenges. But I believe God will see us through. Amen!

This is our 5th Arise and Build and that means we are getting closer and closer to realizing God’s vision. By the end of this year, we will begin the 2nd phase of the project which is the construction of the main hall. It is going to take about 6-8 months to do that and I pray we can wrap everything up by June 2011.

As a church, let’s continually pray for God’s wisdom, provision and protection. Pray for all the leaders as they have to make important decisions. Pray for God’s provision for us so that we will have the resources to complete the work that God has asked us to do and finally pray for the safety of all the workers and the spirit of unity among us. This is an important task. But above all, this is also a spiritual task. Therefore, as we pledge and give, let us not lose sight of the fact that God is still at the center of it all. Our giving is a part of our worship and our focus is Jesus.
May His Kingdom come, His Will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Hi Church,

How are you keeping on? I pray that you are well and the peace of God is upon you.

Can you believe it that we are already in the last week of October 2010? Time flies at the speed of light! It really felt like just yesterday when we started the year. And now that October is here, it is time for us to Arise and Build once again as we build the house of God. This is our 5th Arise and Build as we raise the finances needed to do this work and our theme is ‘Seek Ye First The Kingdom Of God.’ This is a very powerful statement made by Jesus as He teaches us the importance of putting God’s kingdom ahead of what we do in life. As believers, it ought to be both our sense of joy and responsibility to do this. A sense of joy because we can see His kingdom established here on earth and a sense of responsibility because we want to see the generations after us to keep on worshipping and serving God.

The opportunity to build His kingdom and His church on earth is a privilege. It is a testimony that His work is growing and we have been given added trust by Him. Hence, we need to take this seriously and responsibly. The lives that God has given to us are precious. They mean a lot to God because Jesus died for each one of them.

As a church, let’s learn to love God and His people. Let’s learn to offer love, hope, peace and prayer.
Minister to those who are needy.
Love those who are hurt.
Care for those who are weak.
Pray for those who are sick.
Touch those who are depressed.
Befriend those who are lonely.

Church, let’s build both the physical and the spiritual house of God!

Hi Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

WOW! WOW! WOW! What a weekend we have had! 4 services with 4 different speakers! Except for Chee Chuang, both Shao Hen, and Jin Chong preached in church for the very first time. Amen! As your pastor, I am very proud to say that as a church we have grown to a whole new level of maturity. Our leaders have grown so much over the years that it was sheer joy to see them deliver the Word of God with such clarity and conviction. My wife and I were so blessed and impacted. Not only were they eloquent, they also carried the presence of God.

I believe this is what church is all about. Helping people to love God and building their lives along the way. And there is no greater reward in life than remaining in His presence for all eternity. As such, I truly want to encourage all of us to focus on this. Every time we come together, we must ask ourselves;

1. Am I loving God more?
2. Am I helping others to do so?
3. Am I building lives with what I am doing?
4. Is someone’s life enriched because of my actions?’

If you and I can answer these 4 questions confidently, I am sure our church is on the right track. Our spiritual journey is not meant to be travelled alone neither is it meant to be short. With each passing day, we ought to grow deeper in our love for Jesus and remain obediently submissive to His Lordship. Learn to listen to Him through His Word and walk in it. Learn to serve with a grateful heart. I am sure when we put this right in our hearts, helping others and building lives will not be an issue. Truly, let’s grow our church from the INSIDE-OUT. Let’s love people from the INSIDE-OUT. Let’s transform our world from the INSIDE-OUT just like how CHRIST has transformed us. AMEN!

How are you? Once again I pray that this week’s Pastor Writes finds you blessed and well.

We are in a very interesting season of our church life right now - TRANSITION. The last 9 years had been an amazing journey. From a humble beginning of only 20 people, we have grown to a sizeable congregation. However, the growth is not just in numbers but also in age. Oppss! As a result, a lot of things have changed. We are certainly older now. What used to work may not work anymore. And what used to be fun may not be that applicable anymore.

As I seek God, one of the recurring themes that keep impressing upon my heart is for God to give us the grace to embrace change. Yes, all of us know that change is constant. We talk about it and we often preach about it. But we have come to the point whereby preaching about it is not good enough or teaching others about it is not sufficient. We need to be open enough to say that we ourselves need to change. We need to ask God to give us the capacity within to change. Change the way we think. Change the way we speak. Change the way we do things. If this change does not come from within, it will last for just a couple of months, or weeks perhaps. This change is not just about changing our programs or changing the way we do church. It is about changing ourselves on the inside and the way we view our world. We need to recognize the new season that is dawning upon us.

The Holy Spirit gives fresh revelations. His manna is for this present season. Draw close to Him and draw from Him. As your pastor, I am very excited about what is ahead. But there is a condition: we ought to seek God personally. The pulpit is not a place for personal revelation!

Hi Church,

Greetings in the name of Jesus!

Hi! How are you doing? After 2 weekends away, I am finally back! It was a great trip for me as I was invited by Ps. Phil Pringle to speak at his church at Oxford Falls. That was truly a memorable experience for me as I got to minister in such a huge setting. Life-changing for me. :) Apart from that I also spoke at C3 Central City and prepared them for their 1st Arise and Build season. They bought a new place near Camperdown that can potentially contain 500 people! It is all very exciting. Church, let’s be a part of their journey and pray for Ps. Anthony and Melinda Shalala. Personally, it brings joy to my heart to see the kingdom of God growing and expanding.

It is very exciting on our home front as well. As of last week, we have finally taken the first step towards the construction of our new sanctuary by cleaning up and demolishing the existing warehouse. After much praying and planning, I am so glad to say that we managed to cut the cost down by a lot and build our new church way within our budget. It will take approximately 8 months to construct everything so please pray for the efficiency and safety of everyone involved. And next year, when we celebrate our 10th anniversary as a church, we will also dedicate our new church unto the LORD. Hence, with so much happening in the next 9 months, please pace yourself well. Make ample time to pray and be with God, hear His voice and know where He is placing you in His plans. Stay in step with the Holy Spirit and walk closely with Jesus. That way we shall continually touch and build lives around us as we build our lives in Him.

Last but not least, next weekend, all the staff, board members and leaders will be away for a 3-day retreat to prepare our church for a fresh new season. Please pray for us that we may have a fruitful time together. We need this to gear our church for what is ahead.

Dear family and friends,

Greetings from Down Under!

How are you keeping on? I pray that you are healthy and strong as you come back to church to worship God once again.

I have been here for about a week now and I have spent the last week preaching and speaking to the leaders at C3 Oxford Falls. It was a great honor for me as I get to speak at one of my spiritual mentors’ church. Just before I was about to go up to speak on Saturday night, I was so nervous I almost fainted! Ps. Chris kept encouraging me, telling me that she loved me and that I would do just fine. Phew! Well, I still can’t believe that I have done it. But for a younger minister like me, that was a dream come true. Thanks for praying for me. I truly needed that badly. Well, actually on Wednesday, I went back to Oxford Falls to share at their staff meeting. And you know what, they told me that Ps. Phil just landed and he would probably stay at home to rest. I was more relaxed when I heard that. But to my shock and my surprise, Ps. Phil was seated right in front when I got there. Double-pengsan! Hahaha. Anyway, I have done it now... :) This coming weekend, I will be speaking for Ps. John Lee, Ps. Anthony Shalala and also Ps. Andrew Gray. Church, I need your prayers. Please continue to intercede for me. Thanks ya.

And as I am writing this, I am thankful. Thankful for all that God has done for us individually and corporately. Thankful for all that God has done for our country Malaysia. As Malaysians, we have been blessed and church, I would like to inspire you to keep praying for the peace, unity and prosperity of our beloved country. Let’s not take anything for granted. Continue to pray for wisdom and strength for our Prime Minister and his Cabinet as he leads our country into the future.

Dear family and friends,

Welcome back to church once again!

By the time you have this bulletin in your hand, I would have landed in Sydney, Australia. Personally, this is a massive week for me as I have been invited by Ps. Phil Pringle to speak at his churches. It is the first time I have been invited to speak at such an established church and that is truly an honor for me. As such, I covet your prayers and intercession. Am I nervous? You bet! I am nervous even speaking at our own services. Please pray that God’s anointing will come upon me and use me as his mouthpiece. Thanks guys!

And in about a week’s time, we will begin our construction work. Finally! WOO! HOO! I am sure all of us have been waiting for this for a long time. Me too! And now that the work will begin, please continue to pray for God’s wisdom to come upon us as we plan everything to the minute detail and stretch every dollar that God has given to us. The task ahead is huge and the burden is great too. Hence, once again I want to ask for your prayers. Please pray for this building project on a daily basis. We need God’s protection and covering every step of the way. On top of that, let’s believe God that our new church building can be completed by June next year to the glory of God! Amen!

The next 9 months are going to be extremely busy and demanding on us. However, let’s not lose sight on what’s important – LIVES!

I want encourage every one of us to continually touch and build lives from the INSIDE OUT. With that, we will live out our vision and purpose:

Welcome back to church once again!

It is just so good to have all of you here. I trust that you have had a blessed and wonderful week.

Do you know it is already September? In about 4 more months or 120 days, 2010 is going to come to an end. Have you done all that you wanted to do for the year? Most of them? Half? Have you written the letter that you have been wanting to write? Have you been more loving? More caring? Whether you have done it or not, I want to encourage you to keep pressing in. Take time to pray and do all that God has put within you. Do not be afraid to try. It is alright to fail and make mistakes. No one is perfect. You have your entire church family to support you. I am here to pray with you, amen?

I think the lack of conviction is one of the reasons why some people are rather inhibited in their approach towards life. When we do not know what we are passionate about or what we are willing to die for, it is hard to keep pressing on and be excited about things that we do in life. If we, as a church do not have the conviction that without Jesus, people will perish, we will not have a genuine compassion for the lost. We will not have the desire to go for missions or give to missions. On top of that, we will not be able to pray and intercede with fervency.

Without convictions, we live mediocre lives. Anything that can be potentially exhilarating, turns mundane. We lack motivation and the drive within to excel. I believe conviction is the basis of a colorful and purposeful life. It gives us the courage to do things that we never imagined that we would do. It creates momentum. It allows creativity to flourish. It silences all fears. It gives life a different edge.

Church, I want to encourage all of you to live life with convictions! Live it to the fullest! Live up to your God-given destiny!

First and foremost, I would like to warmly welcome Rev. Dr. Ed and Ruth Silvoso into our midst for the very first time. I came across Dr. Ed’s book, Anointed for Business, probably 5 years ago and it was one of those books that made me think and re-think about how I viewed and did certain ministries especially in the arena of the marketplace. Since then, my mind had been renewed and we have changed the way we serve entirely. And today, we are blessed to have the man himself among us to teach us the truth of the Word of God. Church, once again, I want to exhort you to receive the man of God and come prepared to draw. I do not want us to just come and do church. It should not be just another sermon or lecture. It ought to be a platform for us to encounter Jesus in a brand new way. Hence, let’s come to be revived and be taken into the next level.

Adding to that, I want to encourage each and every one of us to continually build lives. Build people from the inside out. Focus on what is important, i.e., real and genuine relationships. Do not get too uptight with admin work. They are important but it should not be more important than actual people and actual lives. Dr. Bernard taught us that it is relationships that precede ministry. Hence, let us live up to the vision that God has given to us. Let us learn to love Him passionately and love people compassionately.

To me, there can be nothing more meaningful in life than seeing my entire spiritual family serving God together, faithfully and joyfully. Church, let this be the desire of our hearts and the goal of our lives.

In our quest to live life to the fullest, never ever neglect those around us.

Hello! How are you doing? I pray that this week’s edition of Pastor Writes finds you blessed and well in the LORD! My family and I miss you all deeply.

You know what? It is just so good to be back – back to church, with family and friends, worshipping and serving with all of you guys! It is truly a joy that cannot be expressed in words. Thank you for being such an amazing spiritual family!

Last week, as I stepped into our church after 7 weeks, the first thing that I was reminded of was how strong the presence of God was in our church. This is indeed our spiritual inheritance. We have labored much to build our spiritual atmosphere to where it is today, hence, let’s continue to do so, so that even more lives can be touched and transformed. I believe when the spirit of God is present, He will set His people free!

And our Church Wide Payer Meeting was simply unbelievable! Right from the start the service was just soaked with His tangible presence. The atmosphere was electrifying! We have made it difficult for others not to worship God with such attitude. I love the feeling. I love being close to God together with all of you. It is truly fulfilling.

I pray that all of us will receive the message of GROWING FROM THE INSIDE OUT with a pure heart. Let’s change the way we see and do things. Let’s focus on building lives! Take time to listen to one another, and pray for one another. Let’s encourage each other to encounter God and come to a place where we have to choose God for ourselves instead of being forced or asked to.
Without attendance forecast, am I less passionate about growth? No! I am more passionate about growth than ever before. I am passionate about GROWTH FROM THE INSIDE-OUT!

How are you doing? I pray that this mail finds you blessed and well. First and foremost, I would like to warmly welcome Ps. Troy Marshall and Ps. John Carrette into our midst. Ps. Troy is no stranger to us and I believe he has prepared a word in season for us. So, let’s come expectant to draw from the man of God. Amen?

And finally, I am back! WOO! HOO! I am so excited that I am back in KL and back in CHCKL! After being away for 7 weeks, it is so good to be worshipping God with my spiritual family once again. Truly, there is no place like home. The sense of joy that is in my wife and I now are beyond words... it is different when you can worship intimately and without reservation. Worship with people whom you know is a part of your family. It is not like I didn’t feel the presence of God when I was away but worshipping at home is simply different. This is the place where we do everything together like praying, serving, worshipping, working, laughing, crying and sacrificing. Of course none of us are perfect but I guess that’s what makes church and life so interesting.

Sometimes I think people are obsessed with perfection. They want their lives to be perfect. Their wedding, their work, their health, their church, their cell group and everything else... is it truly because we want everything to be perfect or we are simply not willing to bear pain? Without pain and disappointment in life, how can we ever learn or move on to the next level? Too often I hear people say that they want to rise up or move on to the next level in life, yet the moment the slightest difficulty occurs, they complain, murmur and eventually backslide. If that is the level of our faith and spiritual maturity, what can we expect from believers 30 years or 100 years from now?

I don’t want us to be a wimpy believer neither do I expect you to be perfect. I just want us to learn to journey together... hang in there, guys... we need each other to grow further and deeper! Amen.

How are you doing? I pray that this mail finds you blessed and well.

I have been away for about 6 weeks now and I miss you all heaps! New York is an amazing city with lots to learn and see but Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is still the best. Very often we hear people complain about the traffic, the weather, the mess and etc... but you know what, yes, it is true that KL is not perfect but it is still our HOME! Amen! It is the place where we are called to serve as a family, a place where we are commissioned to make a difference.

After travelling to so many places in the world, I believe it is the call of God that distinguishes one place from another. A lot of people migrate from one city to another or from one country to another, to look for greener pastures. Some cite better job opportunities and some better education for their children. All the reasons are seemingly valid. But if you ask any taxi driver, they will tell you all the complaints that they have about their city. So, I guess it is impossible for us to find a perfect city. Hence, the only criterion for us to determine which city to live in or, in the same context but different application, which church to settle in, I believe it lies in the call of God – where has God called us to be!

The calling of God revolves around His timing, His people and the place that He wants us to be in. You and I can be doing the right thing but doing it in the wrong place. And that is not good. So, it is wise to take time to pray and seek God to know the heart and the desire of God. That way we will not be getting ahead of ourselves or ending up in the wrong place, doing the wrong thing. He is a good Father and His goal is always to draw us closer to Him.

To "live simply" is not quite the same as "simply live", isn't it?

Recently, I tweeted this statement and it kind of garnered quite some responses... so I thought perhaps it is good that I explain what I was trying to bring across.

There is a huge difference between "live simply" and "simply live". I was not as much as thinking of it grammatically but more of its implications.

Let me try to explain myself.

To live simply simply means to live humbly and to live within our means. Living humbly is relative and very often it is the misunderstanding of this that creates a lot of troubles in life i.e., jealousy, strife... just to name a few. For a fresh graduate, to live within one's means means you rent a room, take public transport to work or perhaps drive a small, second-hand car, don't get into credit card debt, try not to eat out all the time, and basically live within your RM2000 a month. That is the standard for a fresh graduate. But for those who have been working for quite some time, say 20 years or so, living within one's means means having your own house, paid up your car, has no credit card debts, have some savings, able to bless others, can afford a nice dinner every now and then, and a few other perks perhaps. For a person who has reached such a level, he has the right to enjoy the fruits of his labor. It is therefore unfair and not right for the fresh graduate to complain or judge that such person is living lavishly. Just because we cannot afford a bigger television, it does not mean our friends should not have it either.

We ought to learn to be contented and be happy with what we have and not to be upset with what we do not have or what others have. Learn to live simply. Remember, material wealth and possessions can never bring joy to our lives. They only make life easier and more convenient.

On the other hand, to "simply live" is a totally different story altogether. Simply live implies a life that is reckless, without plans and accountability, without respect and without submission to authority.

It is a life that lives one day at a time. This is not wise. We may live to regret a life like that. A reckless life is a life without boundaries, what looks like freedom is actually anarchy. Without respect and submission to authority, such life leads to nowhere but destruction.

Learning to live simply is learning to live within God's governance of authority and covering. We will find ourselves living in joy and contentment when we submit to His ways.

I want to exhort all of us to learn to live life in such a manner. Living simply is not being a simpleton but living within the blueprint of His plans for us in total submission.

Therefore, live simply and don't simply live.

How are you doing? I pray that this mail finds you blessed and well.

At this point of time, I am really missing you guys terribly much. I miss sharing with all of you, teaching you the Word of God, laughing together, praying, worshipping and all those small little things that make us a family. I miss our Tuesday night leaders’ meeting, CWPM and also all our MNPM! I miss walking around the church, saying hi to all of you and seeing some of you hiding when I walk pass. :) I miss all your jokes though sometimes some of them are lame... I miss our loud praise and worship and the moments where we quiet ourselves to pray in tongues and just love Jesus! I miss HTV and all the funny clips. I miss all the missed shots and all that makes all of us so real and so human. I miss scolding the sound crew... I think I got to get back into the rhythm. I am afraid I may not know how to scold them anymore... I miss Bah Kut Teh, I miss eating at Bawang Merah... and I miss all my ‘makan’ gang. I miss all my staff, all my leaders and all of you terribly much. I just miss being around you guys... :(

And as I have to be physically away to do other things this time round (though I am not backsliding), I realize just how much someone can miss out on the things of God and the fellowship of the saints when they are away the church, the body of Christ. The disconnection is unbelievably great but it should spur us to long for Him even more instead of drawing away.

The presence of God is our source of life and our source of strength. Without which, we will find this journey long and tiring. It is my prayer that no matter how hard it may be, how misunderstanding may transpire, stick close to the presence of God and to each other. We need one another to journey this life together. Amen?

Hi Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

How are you doing? I pray that this mail finds you blessed and well. As of this weekend, it will be the 4th weekend that I am not around. This is by far the longest that I have ever been away from our churc ever since we started 9 years ago.

Initially, I was not sure if I should be away for so long but due to the many changes to our new building and the need to re-plan and re-design our new worship facility, I decided to stay here a bit longer to think through things. I thought being away would help me think out-of-the-box and see things from a different perspective. And it has indeed helped me in that end. Being in New York and seeing a variety of structures, especially the ‘Rent’ style metal decking and fire escape stairs... I have quite a few new ideas for our church and of course, most importantly building it cheaper too. I will come back with lots of new ideas not just for our new building but also for our church as a whole. I believe it is going to be one very exciting season ahead of us. :)

Having said that, I want to thank you for your understanding in allowing me to be away for so long. I never had this opportunity to just be away and think through the works and the ministries of our church in the past. It has indeed refreshed me and helped me a lot. On top of that, I also have ample time to think through my Doctoral thesis, which will eventually help to implement a new integrated management system for our church.

I am very excited about the future. Next year, we will be celebrating our 10th anniversary. On top of that, we are going to embark on a lot of new life-changing and community-transforming ministries that we have never done before. As your pastor, I would like to ask you to pray with me and prepare ourselves for such great work ahead. I believe with all my heart, our work will leave behind a spiritual legacy for many generations to come!

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

First and foremost, I would like to warmly welcome Ps. Andrew Gray into our midst. He is the Senior Minister of Mount Annan CCC in Sydney, Australia. Over the years, Ps. Andrew and I have become great friends... and I am sure he is going to share a great Word with us this weekend. Hence, please make sure that you come to church prepared and ready to receive. I know the Word is going to transform your life.

At this point, let me just give you a little update about New York. Esther has been studying at NYU for about 2 weeks now. She has classes everyday and needs to attend plays in the evenings as well. I would join her at times. But not all the plays are like Phantom of the Opera. Some of them are really pretty challenging... if you get what I mean ;)

Apart from that, I spend my days praying, reading, and planning for the next phase of our church. We are entering a very crucial period in our church life where I have to make a lot of decisions regarding how to expand our ministry and increase the capacity that God has given to us as a church. Thus, I need this time away to pray and strategize. I will be away for quite a while (the longest I have ever been) this time round, hence I covet your prayers and your maturity in looking after the church. On top of that, I also trust that the leadership of our church which is spearheaded by Keith, David and the rest of the team will do a great job! After all, this church is built over the years through the love and sacrifice of a bunch of great people and not just one person... therefore, it shall continue that way!

In the meantime, continue to pray in order to build a strong inner-man. Nothing can help us build a closer relationship with God other than prayer, worship and His Word.

Hi Church,

Greetings from The Big Apple, New York City!

Hi! How are you doing? I pray that this week’s Pastor Writes finds you blessed and well. My family and I have been here for almost a week now and time really does fly. Last weekend, I went to speak for Ps. Robb Thompson at Tinley Park, Chicago. It was a good experience for me as I learnt how to minister to people from another nation. I have gained much experience as a result of it and learnt how to communicate with them. I shared with them how to discover our destiny in God. I am glad that the message spoke to them. It was fulfilling to see lives touched and changed by God. I spoke again on Sunday evening and this time to a larger crowd. It was the main service of Family Harvest Church. This time round, I shared with them the need to be servants in the house of God, of how we should serve willingly and cheerfully. I feel in my heart that this is the missing link in many of our churches today. A lot of people just go to church to perform a duty. To be able to serve God is a privilege and we ought to realize this. God does not owe us anything. We should serve out of gratitude. Amen?

After that, I came back to NY on Monday. The whole week was spent with my wife and David, talking about God, church, ministry and life. I have been praying and thinking a lot. When I come back, I will share with you from my heart, the many new things that God has put within me. It is going to be one new exciting season for all of us. I want us to grow as a church but not just numerically. I want our lives to be enriched and empowered so that we can truly add values into the lives of those we minister to. I will share with you some exciting thoughts that most of us would never think of. It will bless your heart and our community.

Church, let us strive to be a blessing and be an asset in the place that God has called us. Let us use our gifts and our talents to transform our world for the better.

After many, many hours of flying and transits, we have finally landed in the Big Apple, New York City. I will be here for the next 2 weeks speaking for Dr. Robb Thompson and also for Ps. Daniel. Esther will be here for a bit longer as she has been accepted into an NYU summer program. She will be doing a course in drama and performing arts so that she can take our church productions to a new level. May I ask all of you to keep praying for us? One of the reasons why we embark on this as a church is because I want our church to relevantly connect with those around us. I want the message of our Lord to inspire and to transform lives. In the future, I hope we can send more people to take such courses. I am sure all of us would benefit from it. Attached in this week's Pastor Writes is one of my devotional on church relevance. Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the fathers a happy and blessed Father’s Day! I pray that the LORD will bless all your endeavors and grant you success in every area of your life. As fathers, you have always been a great role model and support for all of us. Today, we want to take this time to honor you and tell you that we love and respect you! We love you, dad! And to show you our appreciation, we have prepared a special service together with a drama and a song item together with a special father’s day gift!

City Harvest KL is rather young as a church. We are only in our ninth year and most of our leaders and members are in their 20’s. As such, the majority of us are still not married! Therefore, young as we are, and given this opportunity we need to learn as much as we can of how a godly father should be so that we can start a strong and healthy family in the future.

As Asians, we seldom talk about our fathers and we seldom appreciate them as we do our mothers. We tend to be less emotional and less expressive. We tend to hug less and we hardly share our feelings with them or about them. We have a preconceived idea about them that I think is not right. As a church, I want us to change that. And the best way to do that is by replacing the old mindsets. Begin to praise them and appreciate them. Show them that you respect them even if you do not agree with them. Honor them in front of others. Say good things about them. I believe this is how Jesus wants us to honor our fathers.

Church, let’s pioneer a new mindset in this generation where our fathers are respected and honored, where we are not ashamed of them and where we can freely share our feelings with them and about them.

Let the fathers lead. Let our fathers have their rightful place in history.

This weekend I won’t be preaching as I am speaking at the Boys’ Brigade National Camp called ‘Pesta’ in Penang. A total of 1600 boys and girls had signed up for the camp and I will speaking on Sunday morning. Church, please pray for me so that I can lead as many as possible to the saving grace of our LORD. This is a golden opportunity for all these young people to hear of the gospel. And in order to support this work, I have also asked quite a number of our leaders to come along to help. I am believing God for a mighty harvest!

Actually, the last time I spoke at a BB Pesta was about 10 years ago. That time, I was still with my former church and we drove all the way to Setiawan on a Sunday afternoon. That camp saw more than 300 decisions for the LORD and out of that I met people like Kee Wee, Chu Ern, Poh Hin and a few others. The LORD works in miraculous ways. I pray that through this camp, there will be a lot more like-minded and same-spirited people, including those who are newly saved, who will come to be a part of our church family. Amen!

On the home front, our dear North Zone Supervisor David Oh will be preaching. He has always been a fantastic teacher and preacher and I am sure you will be blessed by the sermon that he has prepared for you this weekend.

Church, once again, I want to take this opportunity to encourage all of you to build strong, meaningful relationships with one another. As our church is growing and getting larger, sometimes, we may miss out on what is more precious and meaningful. Do not let the devil come in between our relationships with one another and with the LORD, Amen?

WOW! What a week we have had in Singapore! I am sure all of us have truly enjoyed and been blessed by Asia Conference. Throughout the week, I received so many praise reports and testimonies of how God had blessed them and enlarged their spiritual capacities. I am excited. But at the same time, I also know that it requires much physical stamina and strength to keep waking up early every morning, queuing up for every service and some of us even signed up for being seat-fillers. As your pastor, I want to express my gratitude for your flexibility and understanding. I know not everything could be arranged perfectly. Sometimes there were quite a bit of last minute changes and adjustments. I want to apologize for all that and hope you allow us to improve ourselves in the coming year. Having said all these, I want to say a SUPER BIG THANK YOU to our ASIA CONFERENCE admin team spearheaded by Shirley Boon. They have truly done an amazing job of planning, arranging, booking, communicating and making sure everything is taken care of. I know they have spent many sleepless nights of looking into every bit of detail. Without them, we would have never been able to enjoy the conference as much as we did. So, after the service this weekend, please make sure that you thank the team and appreciate them.

Apart from this, I also want to take this opportunity to congratulate our POS team led by Sarah Ho and all our performers! CHCKL has won! WOW! What an achievement! All of you have done us proud as we showcase our God-given talent to the world!

Church, I pray, in our pursuit of excellence, let us not forget to build a healthy and strong relationship with God and one another. Take time to understand one another, pray for another and carry each other’s burden. This is what a spiritual family is all about, AMEN?

This week, we only have 1 service as the majority of our church is in Singapore to attend the 2nd Asia Conference. Thank you for coming. Though our service may not be as usual, I believe the presence of God and the spiritual atmosphere is equally strong. After much thought and prayer, I have decided to ask Abel to come back to preach. The last time he preached in church was like 5 years ago! WOW! That was a very long time ago. Anyway, I believe he has prepared a great Word for you this time round. So, do come prepared to receive from this young man who has been mightily used by the LORD.

After this weekend, we will be having Rev. Dr. Kong Hee in our midst! WOW! What a great privilege it is for us to have so many great men of God to come and impart into our lives. Because Ps. Kong only comes to our church twice a year, I want to encourage you to invite as many friends as possible to come and hear the Word of God. More than just being touched, I believe their lives will be changed too. Amen! I am expecting a large crowd of more than 2500 people next weekend, so please come early. Come prepared to minister and come prepared to be a blessing.

The LORD has blessed our church with great momentum this year. From an average attendance of only 1400 people in January, we are now almost 1700! I want to ask all of us to continue to pray so that we may enlarge our capacity to serve and contain all our new friends. Our dream this year is to grow our church to 2000 people. We are almost in the half way mark now... so, let’s pray and believe God that soon, we will have 2000 people in our church! Amen!

I am very excited in my spirit because I am greatly anticipating the completion of our new sanctuary! As we build God’s house, I am sure He will build ours!

First and foremost, I would like to once again welcome Dr. John Avanzini into our midst. It is a great honor for us to have him with us as he teaches us on Biblical Economics and Christian Stewardship. Over the last year, Bro. John has released great words of faith into our spirit that has brought about much breakthrough and transformation in us. I believe this year is no exception either. As we come to receive the Word of God in faith, I believe the LORD will work mightily in our midst once again. I am believing God for MIRACLES! I am believing God to open the floodgates of heaven and pour out His blessings into our lives. I want to be empowered so that I may continually do the work of God. I want to see lives changed. I am sure you do too. Hence, let’s come prepared to draw from the man of God and step out in faith in the area of finances. Let’s learn to let go. I am sure we will soon experience our biggest breakthrough ever! Amen!

After this weekend, we will all be heading to Singapore for the 2nd Asia Conference. WOO HOO! This year is going to be bigger and better. With the host of guest speakers that are coming and the amount of programs prepared for us, I am sure every fiber of our soul would be blessed and expanded. So, please prepare yourself well for the conference. Make sure you get enough rest, drink lots of water, and prepare yourself spiritually through fasting and praying. Ask God to do a new work on the inside of you. Invite Him to come into your world and mold you to be better servants and better leaders. Let’s not remain at the same level. Let’s take a step of faith and go higher! Let’s set aside our earthly pleasures in exchange for His heavenly desires.

Church, we only live our lives once. Let’s live it for the glory of God. Let’s live it in such a way that people will always remember us as good and faithful servants!

Greetings from Hong Kong!

WOW! What a great Mother’s Day weekend we have had! It was awesome. I was so happy to see more than 200 mothers coming to our church. All the services were soaked with God’s presence and truly there were no dry eyes in the house. As a church, I want each and every one of us to learn to honor and respect our mothers, not just on Mother’s Day but every day of our lives. Apart from that, we also recorded a high attendance of 1650 people. Amen!

This week we have a great man of God in the house and he is none other than the amazing Ps. Tan Seow How. I want to warmly welcome Ps. How and his team into our midst! 2 years ago, when Ps. How was here, he taught us a remarkable word on dreams and running with the vision of the church that most of us still remember until today. I believe he has brought with him a great word again this time round. So, I want to encourage you to come to as many services as possible so that you may draw and receive from the man of God. Not only that, I want you to invite all your friends to come to church as well. I am sure they would be greatly blessed too.

And next week, we will be having Bro. John Avanzini with us once again. This is just so exciting to have Bro. John with us just before Asia Conference. Bro. John is a modern day apostle on the subject of Biblical Economics. His teaching is balanced but faith-stretching at the same time. As a church, I want us to learn to give and learn to put our faith in God.

2010 has been great! So, let’s continue to press in and do all we can to make this year our best year yet!

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

First and foremost, I want to wish all our mothers a happy and blessed Mother’s Day! Truly, you deserve our love and appreciation for all the hard work and sacrifices that you have put into our lives. For that, we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. And to express our gratitude, we have prepared a host of programs and gifts for all our mothers this weekend – we have a drama, a song presentation and a gift as well.

However, I do know that not all our mothers are here in Kuala Lumpur therefore, I would like to encourage you to send your mom a gift, give her a call or even write her a letter. I am sure they would be equally happy. As your pastor, I want to teach you the value of filial piety, of how we ought to honor and care for our mother and our father, not just out of duty but out of a sincere heart. This is somewhat basic to us as believers. We cannot neglect our parents or in worst cases, disrespect them. I know we may not be able to agree with everything that our parents say or do, but that does not give us the right to go against them. Do not speak to them loudly. Do not raise your voice towards them. We need to have patience when we talk to them. Give them space to express themselves. They are not young anymore, so find more ways to show that you care. Pray for them. Take them away for holidays. Buy them good and healthy food.

Church, we may be young in age but I do not want us to be immature. I want us to learn to be an honoring generation. I want us to learn to be more responsible and more proactive when it comes to looking after our loved ones. For some of us, our parents are only going to be here with us for just a while more. So while they are still here, why don’t you and I do all we can to tell them that we love them and appreciate them?
This Mother’s Day, let’s do something different.

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

How are you doing? I know many of you must still be talking about what you learnt from Ps. Pat Mesiti last weekend. Was he good or what? Exposing all our secrets!!! However, I do believe the message had spoken right into your heart. And now, it is your turn to put into practice what you have learnt. It is not good enough to just know about the opposite sex if we do not take the first step to be kind and nice to them. Remember, husbands, you are supposed to love your wives and wives, you are supposed to respect your husbands. Once we get this fundamental right, I am sure the relationship is going to be fun and fulfilling.

On another note, we achieved another breakthrough attendance last weekend with 1950 people coming to church! Hallelujah! Over the last couple of weeks, ever since we started our prayer groups, the LORD has been working tremendously among our midst. Many new friends re-dedicated their lives back to Jesus, and that saw our church grew from strength to strength. Back in March, our attendance was only around 1420 people. But right now, we are able to hit around 1600! Amen! I pray we will be able to stabilize between 1650 and 1700 come end of May. This is our target and let’s pray along this line.

Besides that, I also want to encourage you to pray. Join a prayer group somewhere near your house. Spend time with one another in the presence of God. Sometimes life can be so busy that we lose focus of God. This prayer group is very important as it helps us to reorganize and regroup our life. Remember, it is when we pray that we move the hands of God. It is when we pray that lives are changed and transformed. Church, there can be many things that we are good at. But really, my desire is that we are good in praying. So, don’t procrastinate anymore. This coming week, find a prayer group near you and begin to pray.

Remember, the biggest ‘if’ in prayer is if you will pray...

How are you? I hope that everything is well over at your end. As I sit here to write another week’s Pastor’s Writes, I have no choice but to admit that time flies scarily fast! It felt like just yesterday that I was seated down to write and now another week has come and gone. Friends, time is by far the most precious commodity that you and I can ever have. And with our society moving ahead so quickly, we really have to seize every moment that the LORD has given to us. I want to ask all of us to spend more time in prayer and draw ourselves closer to God. Apart from that, do everything we can to win our friends. Learn to give up our personal agendas and learn to serve. Learn to care for others genuinely. Time is just too short to be dwelling in disappointments and hurts. Let’s help each other to move on strongly in the LORD. Amen?

And now, I would like to warmly welcome Ps. Pat Mesiti into our midst once again! For those of you who have heard him before, I am sure you are truly looking forward to the ever witty and inspiring Ps. Pat! And for those who have yet to hear Ps. Pat, you are really in for a treat. Ps. Pat is an amazing communicator. Not only is he an anointed evangelist, he is also a very successful wealth creation speaker. Through his teaching, many have found success and live better lives. And I am sure this week is no exception either. I want to encourage all of you to come prepared. Come expectant, knowing that God will do something in your life, especially in the area of relationships!

I know sometimes we think that life is pretty much the same even though we keep coming back to church week in and week out. But I want to assure you that the LORD has done a lot on the inside of you, be it spiritually or the way you think. And it is that molding that has shaped us into who we are today. Never let the devil tell you coming to church is not important. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so actively distracting the believers, would he?

How are you doing? I pray that this mail finds you blessed and well. First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Dr. Eddie King into our midst. Pastor Ed comes from Knoxville and he has a thriving and vibrant congregation. He is a great teacher of the Word of God and I want to ask you to come prepared to receive and draw from the man of God. I believe you will certainly be blessed.

On the other hand, another week has come and gone and I want to encourage all of you to stay focused and keep close to Jesus. Do not be easily surprised by disappointments or setbacks in life, for they are common. It is how we deal with all these things that builds strength and character on the inside of us. Remember, it is during adversity that we know ourselves better. So, as your pastor, I want to encourage you to spend more time in prayer. Pray not because you have to but pray because you need to know the heart of God. Pray because you need to draw strength and wisdom from God.

Apart from this, I also want to remind all of you to fulfill your Building Fund. April is the final month for us to fulfill our pledges and May is our grace period. After that, we will close our 4th Arise and Build season before starting it again in November. I want to ask you to plan out your finances wisely. Do not be reckless with your spending. Remember to set aside the amount that you have pledged to build the house of God. This is our spiritual heritage. This is our commitment.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have seen a lot of new friends coming back to church. It is a good thing. We have grown close to 100 people and I am praying that we will have an average of 1650 people by the end of May. Let’s work towards that and pray with greater fervency.

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all our new friends and family members back to church once again, especially those who came to church for the very first time last week and those responded to the altar call. It fills my heart with joy to have all of you coming back to the house of God to worship with us once again.

Last week was truly monumental. We had our largest Easter attendance ever, with a total of 3824 people turning up for all of our 5 services and a record of 211 people responded to the altar call. Hallelujah! Seeing so many of you responding to the love of God only warmed our hearts and reminded us that all our hard work was worthwhile. However, that is just the beginning of a very exciting and faith-filled journey. The LORD has indeed prepared a great destiny for all of us to discover. It is going to be a lifetime of ‘WOWS’ and ‘WOAHS’! I am honored to be able to take this journey together with you.

In the next 2 weeks, we have prepared 2 very gifted speakers to teach us the Word of God. Firstly, we have Dr. Ed King. He is a great teacher of the Word. He is going to blow you away with his spiritual insights. Secondly, we have the famous and witty Ps. Pat Mesiti to teach us on one of the most mysterious topics on planet earth: RELATIONSHIP. He is going to share with us how we can stay together without killing somebody. It is going to be a massive weekend.

Invite all your friends to come. Invite your family members to come. I am sure they will laugh, cry and have their lives impacted at the same time. 2010 is really going to be one amazing year that will shape and lift our spiritual lives to a whole new level.
So church, be prepared to run... because I do not want any of us to be left behind.

What a great joy it is to have you with us this weekend!

First and foremost, my family and I would like to wish everyone a happy and blessed Easter! Easter is probably the most important day in the calendar of the Christian church. It is the weekend that marks the crucifixion and the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. It is a time of celebration, though it began with Jesus’ suffering. For through it, He overcame death on the cross. As such, those who believe in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life (John 3:16). Lives would carry a new sense of purpose and destiny. Christianity is built on such solid foundation – that Christ died and is risen. Had Jesus not risen, our faith would be meaningless. Had Jesus not overcome death, there would be no cause of celebration.

Christian faith lies in the person of Jesus, the Savior of our soul. It is not based on a list of principles or a set of rules. Our salvation is not a result of our work or our effort. We are saved because we place our faith in Jesus. Is it that simple? Yes, but that is because God has paid the price for us.

This weekend at City Harvest, we have adapted a story in the Bible to show everyone the magnitude of the love of Christ and the challenges that all of us have to face. Sometimes, life can really be tough. But with God, we know we can overcome all things. With God, we can look at life from a totally different perspective. And my friends, may I invite you to come and celebrate this special weekend with us and at the same time, open your heart to allow God to do a new work in you?

It is my prayer that you life is touched and blessed!

WOW! Another week has come and gone... and we have finished the first quarter of the year! Church, I want to encourage you to keep pursuing your dream, to keep pressing on, don’t give in and don’t give up! If there is anything worth pursuing, it must be a life used to the fullest for the glory of God! So, seize your day! Amen!

Last week, I began a new series on DISCIPLESHIP and immediately I received lots of positive feedbacks. Many have made up their mind to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ and are willing to be discipled. It is not easy because we need to dismantle our old mindsets and value system. Furthermore, a lot of our old habits that are ingrained in our lifestyle and attitude need to be fixed. But I believe this is something that we cannot compromise. It is so fundamental to our church that without it, I do not think we will be who we are today. No one who is half-hearted can build a strong church. Without a set of fixed value system based on the Word of God, we cannot do anything great for our LORD. Hence, I want to challenge all of you to rise up! To make up your mind to go one step further in your walk with God. Choose to be discipled. Do not worry about being too tired. Do not always think of needing to rest. Do not retreat. Do not take a break because that break will break your spirit! I have been a pastor for a long time, and I have seen many who have lost their faith and their zeal the moment they take a step back. Church, the world will continually fight for our commitment and our passion. If we do not put our heart to the work of God fully, the world will eventually have it! Therefore, let us do all we can to protect the sincerity and the integrity of our heart. Let us serve and follow Jesus faithfully all the days of our lives, because that is the only one thing that will last for all eternity.

Lastly, on another note, I also want to encourage all of us to invite lots of family and friends to church next weekend as it is our Easter services. Our target is to have 3500 friends and a total of 100 decisions. I want to encourage all of us to work hard and pray as hard.

Let us grow our church!

Dear Friends,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

Hi! How are you doing? I pray that this week’s Pastor Writes finds you blessed and overflowing with God’s blessings. The last 2 weeks had been very exciting as we saw 1401 and 1461 people in church respectively. The growth has been really encouraging. And with all the Friends’ Nights in full-swing, we are seeing more and more new friends coming to our church. It is a good thing seeing new friends coming to our church but it is quite another to assimilate them to be a part of our spiritual family. Church, I want to encourage all of us to build real and meaningful relationships with them. Be genuinely interested in them. Find ways to build bridges into their lives and be a blessing to them. Don’t just focus on the numbers. It is a good thing to have a lot of friends coming to our church but it is pointless if they do not come back again. In the last couple of years, we have seen our attendance soared beyond the thousands especially during our Big Days! However, not too many of them are contained.

This year, I want us to re-strategize. I do not want us to only focus on the quantity but also the quality. And in order to achieve that, we need to activate our Caring System and maintain a consistent discipleship lifestyle. This is a lifestyle where we get involved in our members’ lives, challenge their value system and help them to realize a better way of living with Christ. It is not automatic, neither is it easy. It requires a lot of hard work and love! A lot of patience and tons of commitment!

Church, let us do things differently this year. Let us go the extra mile in building the kingdom of God.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

Last week was a phenomenal week for all of us belonging to the City Harvest family. My family and I were in Singapore to hear the announcement of the new building first hand. The day was filled with much expectation as everyone began to guess where it could be. I, for one, thought it was somewhere near the golf course facing the sea. WOAH! I thought how cool it would be if our church’s convention center faces the sea, with a row of cafes and retail stores lining the coast! Phew! Simply perfect! So, after the long wait we finally got to the service. The praise and worship was awesome and the presence of God was strong. Though there were no signs or billboards, one could sense everyone had a placard hanging over their shoulders, waiting for the super huge announcement saying, ‘Pastor, where is our new home?’

Finally, the time came for Ps. Kong to deliver his message. He preached with passion and anointing. Half way through his sermon, he said, ‘A picture paints a thousand words. But a video paints a trillion words. Video crew, let’s roll the video!’ The fast-paced and effects soaked video clip got everyone cheering and screaming at the edge of their seat! At one point, a glimpse of the new site, blurred by the CGI effects flashed across the screen. But no one could make out where was that. Or perhaps no one could believe their eyes seeing the familiar gigantic structure for the first time. 2 minutes into the video, the actual site was zoomed in from outer space. And now, without a shadow of doubt it is indeed the well-known Suntec International Convention Centre! Oh man! The excitement was unbearable. I felt like my heart was exploding. Can you believe it? What? Am I seeing this for real? After that, we must have clapped, cheered, screamed, praised and roared for a good 2 minutes. There were almost no dry eyes in the house. Yes, we have secured a substantial stake in the consortium that owns Suntec Convention Center! WOW! What a victory! Such unspeakable joy! God has indeed been good to us. To own a stake in an established convention center and turn the largest indoor hall into our church is even more mind-boggling and more ground-breaking than building one on a new site! Kudos to Ps. Kong and Sun – for their wisdom, faith and a never give-up attitude.

Now, we can rejoice and smile each time we drive past it. We can quietly say in our hearts, ‘We have a share in it.’

And as if that was not a news big enough, CHC Singapore will be moving into their new home 12 months from now – March 2011!

2010 is really going to be an amazing year!

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

In the last 2 weeks, we have had a few very powerful and life-changing prayer meetings. During our 1st Midnight Prayer Meeting, the presence of God was so strong that we prayed and prayed for close to 2 hours. After that, it was so easy to just intercede and linger with the Holy Spirit.

4 days later, we had our 2nd Church Wide Prayer Meeting of the year. This time round my plan was to get everyone to focus on the cross and Jesus. After the lights were turned off and a picture of the cross was projected on the screen, I could just feel the whole atmosphere lifted as everyone just kept on praying and praying. Many were in tears as well. At 9:30pm, I thought it was a great time to end the prayer meeting as all of us had encountered God. However, I was quite surprised that no one wanted to leave. After all, prayer meeting was for us to meet with Jesus. And we did. As a result of that, I began to teach how to befriend the Holy Spirit and how we need to remember that He is the host of our church and not a guest. Too often, the Holy Spirit is like a visitor. If we are lucky, He turns up. However, I do not want our church to just have a visitation. I want an inhabitation. I want us to learn how to create the space and the atmosphere for the Holy Spirit to work freely among us. That way, lives can be touched and transformed. And truly, that is what the church of the living God is all about!

Church, this is our vision. This is what we have been called to do. Hence, let’s learn how we can flow with the Spirit of God and work alongside Him.

Let us build a strong church in our generation where God is REAL!

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

Well, Chinese New Year is coming to an end... and I know to many of us, it is only now that it feels like 2010 has begun! Whether your year is already in full-swing or just about to start, I want to encourage you to get going with it as soon as you can! The first 2 months of the year are usually very slow, especially with all the parties and celebrations. But now that all of them are finishing, it is really time for us to buck up and move on ahead. We cannot afford to dilly-dally and waste any more time. We need to keep going and keep pressing in. Very often, we procrastinate and drag... only to find another year has come and gone. But this year, I want you to lead your life differently.

Starting this weekend, we are already entering into the 3rd month of the year (MARCH). Hence, I want you to roll up your sleeves and get started immediately. If you are sitting for your PMR/SPM/STPM/A-Levels or any exams for that matter, I want you to start preparing now. Buy all the books that you need and start doing all the exercises. Nothing prepares you better than practices and lots of practices! If you are working on a project or being given the responsibility to run a department, start planning your work now. Draw up your plan and your strategies. Don't wait till your boss screams his lungs out before you begin to do anything! Be creative. Take initiative. Do not be afraid to try! One day, you will break through and do well! Only be strong and courageous. If you are a believer, start praying now. Start reading your Bible now. Don't wait till you have drawn up a plan before you embark on your spiritual journey. Daily devotion is meant to be done daily. Begin today!

Once we are back in the working mode, we will find that the momentum picks up a lot easier and a lot faster. Church, I truly believe 2010 is going to be an awesome year. But in order to see all those visions that we have coming to pass, we need to get going now. Let me encourage you to start running and start turning all those dreams into realities.

I want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and blessed Chinese New Year once again. Today is the 8th day of the celebration and I am sure all of us are still in a celebration mood. :) So, while you enjoy all the good food that your family has prepared for you, do remember to spend quality time with them too. As children, the best that we can do for our mom and dad is to treasure and appreciate them. And I want us to genuinely show them how much we care and love them. As Asians, and especially Chinese, we sometimes find it quite hard to express our love to our parents. But that should not stop us from doing what is right. On the other hand, I also know that the change is not going to happen overnight. So, why don't we start somewhere? Why don't we change a little bit first this time round? I am sure our parents will appreciate that. Friends, we do not have our parents with us all the time. Hence, let's show them that we care while they are still around. Chinese has a saying that goes like this, 'It is better to honor our parents with small gifts while they are alive than giving them a big gift after they are gone.' I believe when God teaches us to honor Him, He wants us to do the same for our parents, if not more. Church, let us be an honoring generation. Amen!

And now that the Chinese New Year holidays are coming to an end, I want to ask us to re-focus our priorities and begin to run with greater zeal for the things of the LORD for this year. Let us commit ourselves to be more consistent in our daily devotion, relationship, ministry and at our workplace. As believers, we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. So, we need to be impacting lives all the time. We cannot be a half-hearted Christian. Neither can we be a submarine believer who only emerges on weekends. If we truly want to live our life to the fullest and shine for Jesus, then we ought to be ready in season and out of season. That way, we will please the heart of God and bring His name praise.

Church, I am very excited for 2010. I know God has a lot prepared for us. So, let's get ready to RUN! RUN! RUN!

Dear Church,

Gong Xi Fa Cai!

First and foremost, my family and I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and prosperous Chinese New Year. According to the Chinese Lunar calendar, this is the year of the Tiger. As Christians, we are not superstitious, neither do we subject ourselves to such beliefs. But whatever it may be, I pray that all of us would be blessed with great health and great wisdom to live this year fully to the glory of God.

I am also very excited about this new year because we are presented with the opportunity to live out The Christian Mind sermon that we learnt last year. I want us to learn to be a good witness at home. I want us to learn to be accepting and loving. I do not want us to be judgmental or critical. This is especially so because during this festive season, a lot of our non-believing family members would practice rituals according to their customs and belief system. They may do things that we do not believe in. But I do not want us to look at them cynically or belittle their practices. We may not agree with what they do but that does not give us the right to disrespect them. What if they do the same towards us and laugh at the way we speak in tongues? Would we be happy about that? Of course not. Hence, let us not do unto others what we do not want others to do unto us. This is the royal law as taught by Christ. As believers, we need to carry the mind of Christ, the spirit of love. While Jesus was on earth, he talked to sinners and dined with them. He received them as though they have no sins. And Jesus did the same to us. He died for us while we were yet sinners! So friends, this Chinese New Year, let us be more loving and less critical. Do not be overly righteous. Do not be super-spiritual. We are called to love. We are commanded to love.

So, this Chinese New year, let's go home with a totally new mindset. Let's practice the true Christian Mind. I truly believe we will see a great deal of change when we do that!

Dear Church,

Greetings in the powerful name of Jesus!

Can you believe it? It is already the first week of February! Time really does fly. Once again, I want to encourage you and remind you to make full use of the year. Do not procrastinate any longer. Begin by taking small, simple steps. Get into the rhythm. Once you have built up the momentum, it would be so much easier to move forward. Friends, don't make this year just like any other year... OK? We have got to start living and make it count. As I have said before, we are not getting any younger. After all, how many more 10 years do we still have? So, let's spur each other on to keep on going and striving!

At the moment, I am in Dubai, spending a few days with Yipp and Gillian before leaving for Moscow. Gillian used to be my PA before Yipp had to move here to work. I am so happy to see the both of them doing so well. But being so far away from home, they do have their challenges. I want to encourage those of you who know them to continually remember them in your prayers. They need all the support that they can get from us. And on Friday, I will be leaving for Moscow to speak to a group of 300 medical students, challenging them to be involved in at least one medical mission this year. It is going to be exciting and faith-stretching. Hence, once again, I would like to ask you to pray for me so that I can be effectively used by God. I will reach KL on Tuesday morning just in time for our Chinese New Year services. WOW! I am so excited in my spirit. I truly believe all of you would be so blessed and so impacted by all that God wants to do in you and through you!

Last but not least, let us continue to pray for our building plan final stage’s approval. Time is running short. We only have 6 months into our first service. As the workers prepare the physical house of God, I want to encourage all of us to prepare the 'spiritual' house of God - ourselves. I want us to enlarge our capacity to pray, to serve and to grow the house of God. I want us to have a heart so full and expanded that we can fill and saturate the new church with the presence of God from the first weekend we are there!

Let's build a strong spiritual structure!

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

How are you doing? I pray that you have had a good week and a better one to come. This is the last weekend of January and I trust that you have put all your plans for 2010 in place. Always remember that if we fail to plan, then we are only planning to fail. So, don’t take your goals and visions lightly, for they add values to our lives. And this weekend is the first weekend I am away from church for this year. By the time you are reading this, I am already in Singapore speaking at a Methodist church. I am very excited about this conference as I will be inspiring them to lead the next 10 years with faith and courage. The band is also here with me. So church, please continue to pray for us. I covet that. And right after that, I will be leaving for Moscow to speak at the Malaysian Fellowship Winter Conference entitled, ‘Change Begins with Me.’ This year, they are expecting 300 participants and I will be challenging 200 of them to participate in one of their medical relief works. WOW! It is very challenging indeed but I know with faith and your intercession, I am sure I will achieve that goal.

On another note, I want to express my most sincere gratitude to all of you who gave generously and willingly to the Haiti Earthquake Fund last week. All of you guys are just simply amazing. Already, we are in our Arise and Build season yet you gave above and beyond. Last week, in both of our services, together with our Chinese church we collected a total close to RM30K! Amen! With that, it allows us to send at least 2 more doctors. I pray we will able to find more doctors to be sent to Haiti to help those who are suffering and are in need. Church, let us not lose heart in doing good, for we know that whenever we do something for anyone who is in need, we are doing it unto the Lord. Let’s pray that the situation in Haiti will continue to improve as the days go by.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

Another week has come and gone. I trust that you have had a fruitful one. A lot of people told me that they learned a lot from last week’s sermon. I was so happy when I heard that because it is always my desire to teach all of us to be practical yet God-fearing at the same time. Perhaps one of the greatest dangers of a modern church is being out of touch with reality. We cannot lead what we fear, neither can we change what we are not familiar with. This year, I really want to encourage all of us to be relevantly engaging. But in order to do that, we need to first know the needs and the conditions of our present society. A doctor will not know what kind of treatment to use if he does not know what is wrong with the patient. If all we have is a hammer, then all the problems are nails. So, may I encourage all of us to be a creative problem-solver, a genuine relationship-builder and a fervent disciple-maker of Jesus Christ!

On another note, I want to talk about Haiti. As we all have known, Haiti was struck by an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Ritcher scale on Jan 12, 2010. The earthquake destroyed scores of houses, shops, lives and families. On Jan 20, 2010 another strong aftershock measuring 6.1 hit the tiny nation once again. This has hampered the rescue work and medical relief currently being carried out. As believers, we cannot lie idle. We need to do something about it. We need to pray for them and do whatever we can to help them during this dark moment of their lives. At this point of time, I am trying to assemble a team to go to Haiti. This weekend, we are going to collect a special offering to help the Haitians. As your pastor, I want to ask you to give generously to this cause. I know each one of us have our own needs, but can we set that aside for the time being and do this to help alleviate their pain and sorrow?
Church, let us arise for such a time!

How are you doing? I pray that this week’s Pastor Writes finds you blessed and in the best of health. 2010 has just begun. I know many of you are still in the midst of writing and fine tuning your New Year resolutions. It is perfectly fine. It is better to pen down well-thought resolutions than simply scribbling and doing it because we have to. For those who are still working on your list, let me share with you some pointers here. One of the principles that I have learned over the years when it comes to writing down my goals is to adopt the S.M.A.R.T principle:

i. Specific
Be specific and try to be as accurate as possible. Don’t have a general goal. It can be meaningless. If your goal is to lose some weight, then it is better to set a target of say, maintaining our weight at 75kg. It is more effective that way than just by wanting to slim down.

ii. Measurable
Our goals ought to be measurable. If we want to be on top of our finances, then we need to have a plan of how much we want to save by which month. That way we will know if we are on track.

iii. Action Plan
What is your strategy? How are you going to achieve your goal? Are you going to invest your money or are you going to sign up to a gym membership?

iv. Realistic
We ought to be people with high ideals and big visions. However, our goals have to be realistic at the same time. We cannot aim to save RM1 million if we have yet to learn how not to live in debts!
v. Time-Conscious
Every vision is a goal with a deadline. We do not have forever to do something. We cannot take our own sweet time to do a simple task. We need to work within a reasonable time frame. If our goal is huge, then we may need a few years to achieve it. However, every year’s hard work must contribute towards that goal.

Church, let’s be smart when it comes to goal-setting. Let’s be practical. When we know how to strike the balance, I believe we will look at each new-year with new zeal and new excitement!

Let’s make 2010 a fun and fulfilling year.

Greetings in the powerful name of Jesus!

First and foremost, I would like to warmly welcome Ps. Derek and his family into our church. This is the first time Ps. Derek is here at our church, therefore I want to ask all of you to come prepared and expectant to draw from the man of God. Besides, I also want all of you to make Ps. Derek and his family feel as welcomed as possible. This is our City Harvest heritage and we ought to do well in it. On top of that, we are also having the crew from Singapore’s O School with us! Woo hoo! They are going to do a workshop on Sunday afternoon. At the moment, there are already more than 100 people signed up! I believe it is going to blow all of our minds away! What a great weekend indeed! This is just one of the indications that 2010 is going to be our best year yet! So church, do come ready to receive and participate.

As this is the second weekend of the year, I would like to find out whether you have made your New Year resolutions. If you have yet to do so, I want to encourage you to do it as soon as possible. This is an important exercise because it helps us to focus and concentrate our energy. I am sure none of us want to aim for nothing and achieve anything. And if you have done so, I want to give you some pointers to help you stay focused. Firstly, we need to have goals that will stretch our imaginations. However, it should not be beyond our reach. Otherwise, it will discourage instead of motivate us. Secondly, we need to develop the habit of reviewing our goals on a regular basis - once a month is a good practice. That way, we will not stray away from our initial target. Having said all this, we need to realize that goals are set to help us stay focused. If we have achieved them earlier than expected, we can always add to it or increase the size of our dreams. Goals only serve as a guideline for us. But please do not reduce your target especially when the going gets tough. That is when we need to have the strength to keep going and the faith to keep believing.

Which is better… a big fish in a small pond or a small fish in a big pond? Think about it…

Welcome to an exciting and brand new 2010!

I am sure all of you are very expectant and looking forward to what God has in store. Personally, I am very confident that this year is really going to be our best year yet because God has given us so many new assignments.

Firstly, we need a lot of wisdom and preparation to plan and build our new building. With our limited finances, we still need to construct a sanctuary that will make Him proud. Not only that, my dream is to create a functional 3rd place that will attract both Christians and non-Christians alike. The church of the living God ought to be a place of blessing. It ought to be a place of refuge and a place of restoration. I want to see our church meet the needs of the needy and heal the wounds of the sick and broken.

Secondly, I also want our church to be a place where lives can be empowered! I want to organize more training sessions in the coming year that will equip our members to be more productive in the marketplace. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is all encompassing; therefore we should not only cater for the spiritual needs of our members. We need to strategize and plan more workshops and activities that will help one another to earn more money and be more productive. The socio-economic condition of our members should improve as a result of the work of God in their lives. And it is our responsibility as leaders of the church to make this happen. I pray that God will give us wisdom to do this well.

Finally, I want our church to be a happy and fun place to be. God is not only a good God but He is also a happy God. He is not angry with us. He wants us to be able to freely enjoy all that He has given to us. He wants us to be as creative as possible and as colorful as possible.

Hence, let’s make 2010 the most exciting year yet!

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings in the name of Christ!

How are you doing, church? Are you feeling rather mellow for the year that has passed or are you getting really excited for what is ahead? Well, we have finally come to the last weekend of 2009! Like it or not, it is not going to come back. I know it feels like 2009 has just flown by. But just like every other year, it has 365 days as well. The question is, have you have spent your days wisely? Did you fulfill all that you have set out to achieve? Did you do all that you planned to do?

As we come to the last lap of this year, I want to encourage all of us to take some time out and evaluate what we have achieved and what we failed to accomplish. It is very important that we learn to take stock so that we can do better in the coming year and do not make the same mistakes again. Life on earth can be very meaningless and miserable if we only know how to take one day at a time.

Friends, let me encourage you to live differently in the coming year. Don’t take life too easily. Don’t take things too easily. We need to learn to seize our days. Life on earth is not exactly long. Make every day count. Do things that are meaningful. Learn to love. Learn to forgive. Move on quickly. Don’t get stuck in the past. On another note, I also want to encourage you to learn to budget your finances well in the coming year. Put visions to your money. Give them an assignment. Don’t simply spend what you have. Learn to save up. Learn to invest. Kick out the habit of compulsive buying. Live with discipline.

It is VERY unwise to overspend. In doing so, we will find ourselves working for the bank for the next 5 to 10 years. Church, let us be a debt-free church. Let us learn to live with a greater purpose. All of us only have one life to live so let’s learn to live it to the fullest for the glory of God!

Welcome to City Harvest Church!

First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a happy and blessed Christmas! Thank you so much for taking time to celebrate this wonderful and special festive season with us. Christmas is especially meaningful because it reminds us how God gave us His one and only begotten Son Jesus Christ to be our Savior. Indeed, it is more blessed to give than to receive.

This year, we have prepared 3 services during the Christmas period and our production team has come up with a drama entitled “Operation: Save the World”. It is a story about how God involves angels and mankind to accomplish His task on earth. The cast and the crew has been working very hard for the past month or so, therefore I believe it is going to touch and bless your heart. On top of that, I know it is going to be very entertaining as well. So, if you enjoy the first show, do invite more of your family members and friends to come. I am sure they would be inspired and blessed too!

After that, we will be having 2 Thanksgiving Services over the weekend of December 26-27. We have prepared a host of special programs for all of you. That weekend, we will also be graduating a new batch of leaders, giving out bursaries to all our outstanding students and dedicating all the new babies in our church. It is going to be one special weekend to remember all the good things that God has done for us. I like to do this because it teaches us to be thankful and to learn to count our blessings instead of always complaining.

Church, let’s end the year with a bang. Let’s finish the last lap with zeal and expect 2010 to be our best year yet!

Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

Christmas is just around the corner! Have you done all your Christmas shopping? Have you sent all your Christmas e-cards? Do you have any plans with your family members or your cell group members? I love Christmas. It is such a joyous time, where family and friends alike can come together to celebrate and share. Christmas is all about giving and sharing, how God came and shared His life with us. And truly, Jesus is the reason for the season.

And I also love the feeling and the atmosphere surrounding the church during this time. It is so abuzz with life; with rehearsals going on, the cast practicing their lines, the crew setting up the place and the props team decorating and designing the backdrop. I like seeing a busy church – a church where family members come back to help each other till late at night. It just goes on to display a church with love and life. I want to take this opportunity to encourage all of us to serve. It is through serving that we develop a greater sense of belonging and deeper sense of love for God and one another. Even if you do not know what you can do, just turn up and I am sure someone will have something for you to do. Many years ago, when I was still a teenager, I just showed up at my church and told the pastor that I wanted to help. Ever since that day, I have been serving and helping in the church.

It does not take a lot to start. It only takes a simple initiative. So, why don’t you ask your cell group leader if there is anything you can do in the house of God? Or perhaps begin to invite your family and friends to church this coming Christmas. I am sure they will be blessed with all the performances and programs that we have prepared.

Church, let’s celebrate this Christmas with joy and love. Let’s share the love of God with all those around us.

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

The year is coming to an end. Malls are decorated with colorful lights and sales are everywhere. It is a time to celebrate and for most people it is a time to shop. Shopping is not a bad thing especially when we are getting gifts to reward ourselves for all our hard work or for our loved ones. However, excessive and uncontrollable shopping is a negative thing. We need to ask ourselves if we really need the thing that we are thinking of buying or we simply want something new. Sometimes sales and discounts can be quite deceiving, in that they make us feel like we need something when we do not actually need it. Take sales like ‘buy one get another for free’ for example. Why do we need two toasters when one is enough? Do not be a compulsive shopper. Do not make any purchases out of the spur of the moment. Always plan your spending. Never buy with credit especially when you are in debt. Remember this – spend within your limit. Now that Arise and Build, Christmas and 2010 are looming, make sure that you take the time to plan your finances. Give every dollar you earn a vision. If you are saving up for a house, do not overspend on your holiday. If you are saving up to get married, do not buy any unnecessary gadgets. If you are saving up for your building fund, do not stray away from that focus. All of us can be easily distracted therefore the best way to keep us right on track is by having a plan and review it regularly. If we truly want to be successful in this area, then we need to be disciplined. We need to make the extra effort to ensure that we plan our money well. That way we will always have more than enough. Otherwise, how can we be generous? How can we give to God if we have nothing and are constantly in debt?

Money is a big and important subject in life. Our ability to handle money well will determine how much we can do for God in the area of mission and building His kingdom here on earth.

Remember, God is not against us having money but against money having us.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

WOW! What a special weekend this is - the Chinese calls this ‘double-happiness’ as we have both Ps. Rob Buckingham and the famous Parachute band with us! Let’s give them a warm City Harvest welcome!  I believe it is going to be one amazing weekend that will open the floodgates of heaven over our lives! So church, I want to encourage all of us to press in and allow the Spirit of God to do a new work on the inside of us!

Well, I am not sure if you realize but we are already in the last month of the year! 2009 is coming to an end and 2010 is coming! Have you achieved all that you set to achieve? Are you taking time out to evaluate how you have spent the year? I know I remind and encourage all of us to do this every year but this year, I really want all of us to take this seriously. We cannot afford to live every year aimlessly or averagely. We are not getting any younger and the task ahead of us is huge. The LORD has commissioned us to do an important work for this generation. So, I don’t want our church to look back at our past in the future and regret that we did not attempt greater things and risk more for Him. I don’t want us to have to say such things as, ‘We could have…’, or ‘We should have.’ City Harvest, we are given one life to live, so why don’t we live life to the fullest for our Savior? Yes, there will be challenges. The devil will throw all kinds of false accusations against us… but if we truly know that we are doing it for the LORD, why should we fear? Why don’t we stick together as a family and do Him proud? Why don’t we stand united and bring the Kingdom of God into our generation? Wouldn’t that be a better way of living? Or do we rather that we hide our gifts and talents and do nothing with it?

I am sure this is not how Jesus wants us to live. He wants us to be strong and courageous. He wants us to live life with unusual responses. He wants us to step out and step up! He wants us to break new grounds for Him! So, let’s spur each other on and live life like that!

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

WOW! What a weekend! I am sure all of you must have been so blessed by this year’s Emerge Rising! Ps. Kong was phenomenal, the presence of God was strong and the whole conference was just so saturated with His anointing. It was so easy for God to move, touch and change lives. This is the reason why Emerge is so important. More than just a conference where creativity is celebrated, lives can be inspired to the next level. I know that such a hectic conference can be tiring, but the joy of seeing so many lives move forward surpasses all the sleepless nights and hard work. I pray that we can continue to do Emerge better and bigger in the coming year, especially when we will be having it in our own church building! Amen!

As such, we really need to pray for God’s favor and wisdom to come upon us so that we may get our building ready by next year. At this point of time, all the drawings and planning are 90% settled. We are only waiting for the approval from the council to be released. Church, I want to ask all of us to increase our prayer level so that the approval can be granted to us as soon as possible. The entire project takes about 6-8 months to finish. I need us to pray so that we can start work in February 2010. And once the project begins, I will be able to inform everybody as to our new building dedication date. Keep praying.

And with all these preparations going on, we also need to prepare the finances needed to accomplish this task. This weekend is our Pledge Weekend. I trust that you have prepared your heart as to the amount that you want to give. Let’s pray and believe that the LORD will prosper the hands that sow. And let’s strengthen each other to do this great work of God.

Welcome to EMERGE RISING 2009! WOW! What a weekend we are having! First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome my pastor, Rev. Dr. Kong Hee and all of you to our annual youth conference. All of us are in for a treat as Ps. Kong will be speaking at all the 5 sessions in this year’s EMERGE!

This year’s Emerge is by far the largest. We have had over 100 competitions and 300 medals up for grabs. On top of that, there are also other attractive prizes to be won. This is a very exciting season because we are able to unearth some of the hidden potentials and talents of our young people. I want to see today’s youth engage life and all that God has given to them. I want to see them engage in healthy activities and through this live a more dynamic and fulfilled life. Apathy is a subtle killer. It drains us of our strength and our zeal for life. It saps us of our energy. Therefore, it is my dream that through Emerge, young people will once again celebrate the life and the creativity that is in them! Don’t be boxed up. Don’t think you can’t do it. Don’t be intimidated by fear. Learn to take steps of faith, one at a time. I believe when we begin to do that, we will see significant changes, one that will launch us into greater things in life.

Apart from all these activities, Emerge is also a time for us to encounter Jesus. It is a time for us to be in touch with our spirituality and seek the meaning of life. Our world is getting noisier. The demand on us is getting heavier. We need to learn to take pauses and ask ourselves, ‘Why am I here?’ and ‘God, what is it that you want me to do with this life that you have given to me?’ I believe, when we are able to have such retreats every now and then, we will discover the purpose and the joy of living a life for Christ! Let’s grow in balance; both physically and spiritually. Let’s Emerge and make a difference in our generation.

WOW!!! In less than a week’s time we will be having our 5th Emerge Conference!!! And it is getting bigger and better! In terms of planning and preparation, I think this is one of the best that we have ever had. Not only did we manage to organize more events, we also received a lot of sponsorship from different companies and organizations! Praise the LORD! I want to take this opportunity to encourage all of us to be bolder in engaging culture and society. Go and make more friends and be the salt and light for Jesus. Emerge is a time to unearth potential and celebrate creativity. But it is also a time to shine and testify for Jesus! So, let me encourage you to both win medals and win friends for Jesus! Amen!

And starting this week, we are also entering into our 4th Arise and Build. This is the season for us to build the house of God, a time for us to focus on the physical building of God so that we may grow the church further and meet the needs of different people. Church growth is both a privilege and a responsibility. As we grow, we also need to care for those around us. I pray that as we remain planted in the house of God, we shall continually prosper and have enough seeds in our hands to sow into the work of God. At this point of time, we are designing a church that seats close to 2000 people. Our team has been working very hard in trying to reduce the cost of constructing the building, eliminating anything that is unnecessary, concentrating only in areas that matter.

So, as your pastor, I covet your prayers. We need wisdom from God to turn this vision into reality. And church, let’s once again join our hearts together and embark on this great work of God. Let’s leave behind a spiritual legacy for our future generation so that they too may be able to discover and serve the Lord our God all the days of their lives! Amen!

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

How are you doing? I pray that you have had a fruitful and blessed week. This week was especially special because we have had an awesome prayer meeting on Tuesday night. The power and presence of God was so strong that we just continually worshipped and prayed. Church, I really want to encourage you to be a part of it each time we have our CWPM. Prayer meetings are significant because they revive our inner-man as we learn to dwell in His presence and intercede. Such dwelling and lingering helps build our spiritual stamina and increase our spiritual sensitivity. And very often, we see lives transformed, problems solved and weary souls refreshed simply by immersing oneself in the presence of God. The atmosphere generated by a collective faith can change us from the inside. Truly, there is nothing like a church that prays together.

Well, we are in the last lap of the year and I know all of us are super busy with Emerge, Arise & Build and exams all coming at the same time. Hence, I want to ask all of us to pray and have wisdom in how we organize our calendar. Be sure to make time for everything. Do not procrastinate. Do as planned. Maintain a balance. Eat healthily. Exercise. Actually, this should not only be practiced during the busy periods of our lives. We should maintain such a lifestyle on a regular basis. Our lives will only get busier. The demand on us will only increase. If we do not develop such habits, how can we do greater things for God? How can we achieve more in life?

Friends, there is no shortcut to greatness in life. There is no such thing as an easy ride. If we are not willing to pay the price, we will always live an average life.

So, let’s rise up and Emerge! Let’s use our lives to be a blessing to this generation!

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

How are you all doing? I trust that you have had a great and awesome week. I have had a very fruitful week, especially on Tuesday night where I get to spend some quality time with all our leaders. We shared, we talked, we laughed and I taught… it was all very good. I really treasure and appreciate all the time that I can have with them. Being a part of this great spiritual family is truly a blessing and I know it is this connection that helps us define our destiny in Christ. Hence, I pray that we can continue to groom more leaders who will share the same vision and burden with us to transform our generation for the LORD. I am believing God that we will continually grow our church beyond all that we can ask or imagine.

And as our church grows, the demand for a larger space also increases. We need to have a larger facility to minister to people from different walks of life, and people from different seasons in life. With this in mind, we are beginning our Arise and Build Season once again. This is a period that we set aside every year to give of our best to God to build His house. All throughout the Scripture, we read how the people of God sacrificed and gave of their best to construct God’s temple. Why? It is because the house of God allows us to worship and experience Him corporately and gives us the opportunity to serve Him and touch lives. From this we can see the importance of the church. So many things can take place by just being in it.

Therefore, I am asking all of us to seriously consider and pray for the right amount that God would like us to give. Let us not give out of compulsion but out of a heart of love and out of a vision that He has birthed forth within us. When we do so, I am certain the LORD will bless us many folds in return. With that, we will continually have seeds in our hand to sow!

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

I am back!!! It is just so good to be back. Actually not quite… hahaha… I am actually writing this week’s Pastor Writes on the plane but because they allow wireless internet during our flight, I am able to write this and send it back to our office at the same time. How cool is that! This is really ‘not-even-the-sky-is-the-limit’.

First and foremost, I want to say a big thank you for your love and understanding for allowing my family and I to be away for so long. I also want to thank Keith and David for holding the fort while I was away. They have done an amazing job! Amen! This trip away is very important for me because it gives me time to think through our vision and strategies for the coming year and come out with new plans as to how we can continually grow and take our church to the next level. Apart from that, my wife too had a great time, being able to catch a musical at Broadway. This has allowed her to dream bigger and do better productions for us in the coming year. Well, to sum it all up, we have been greatly refreshed. I am sure 2010 is going to be bigger and better!

But before we get there, let’s first work on making this year’s Emerge the best ever! I know the competitions and atmosphere has been overwhelmingly amazing so far! Abel and his team has been doing a great job organizing and putting everything together. I want to encourage all of you to join as many competitions as possible. Explore yourself. Do things that you have never done before. Be involved. Participate. And during the conference, bring as many friends as possible to experience the tangible presence of God and the creativity that He has put within us. Church, Emerge is a time for us to go all out and discover the creative side of us. It is also a time for us to engage the world and show them the glory of God through our gifts and talents. So, let’s not just give a 50% commitment. Let’s not even give a 99% commitment. Let’s go all out and give our 110% to God! Let us rise up and transform our generation for the LORD!

Hi Church,

Greetings from the Big Apple!

Another week has come and gone and I trust that you have had a great one. I was in New York with my family and one of the highlights of our trip was catching a musical at Broadway – Wicked! It was amazingly well orchestrated and performed. From the props to the cast, everything was done professionally and excellently. The whole time I was there, I kept watching and learning how they did the backdrops, the lights, the music, the changing of scenes and everything else, I ended up not really knowing the story! Boy oh boy, were they good or what? It was seamlessly flawless! I was mesmerized to say the least. I am humbled and we really have a lot to learn. Hence, it has given me a lot of new ideas as to how we can do better and improve in the future. I am excited. Our future production is going to go one notch higher! Amen!

On another note, I want to remind all of us that we are in the last lap of the year. In less than 70 days we are going to end 2009. I want us to take this time to take stock and evaluate all that we have done or failed to achieve. In the very little time that we have left, let us do all that we can to end the year with a bang! We still have Emerge coming up and our annual Arise and Build Program. As we seek to build lives, let us not forget to build the house of God as well. Truly, there is nothing more meaningful than living our lives for the glory of God. And I truly believe that this is the only way we can live our lives larger than ourselves! A dream, a vision greater than all that we can ever ask or imagine! What a fruitful and meaningful life that would be.

So church, let us not give up doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. The future is gonna be awesome, if we allow God and His people to mold us and shape us into His image!

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings in the mighty name of Jesus!

How are you guys doing? I trust you have had a great and awesome week! My family and I have had a great week with Ps. Kong, Sun and Dayan in LA. I spent much time with Pastor, listening to his heart and receiving from him a greater vision for the coming year. When I come back, I will share more with you.

But all in all, Esther and I have been greatly enlarged by what we saw here. 2 days ago we went to Disneyland for the first time and we were simply blown away by their boldness and creativity. The whole place was so lively and colorful. The cast really brought all the cartoon characters to life! It is indeed The Magic Kingdom! Truly, if we do not put a lid on our dreams and abilities, there is nothing that can stop us. Church, I want us to learn to dream and believe that we can achieve all that God has put within us to achieve.

I want to see City Harvest becoming one of the livelier, more charismatic and more creative churches in the nation. I want us to be daring enough to venture out of our comfort zone and attempt to do things that we have never done before. Do not be afraid of failures. Do not be intimidated by the challenges ahead of us. Learn to overcome them one by one. Take courage in the LORD. There is no guarantee that all our ventures and investments would be successful. But the most important thing is that we learn from our failures and we move on to the next level. God will always be there for us. He will never forsake us. Do not doubt Him. Do not resist Him. Do not take shortcuts. As long as we pursue our work and God with purity and sincerity of heart, I believe He will honor us for our courage and trust in Him.

Church, this is my dream for you. This is my heart’s desire for you. Never compromise even when everything has failed you. Your hope is in the LORD!

Greetings in the mighty name of Jesus!

By the time you read this edition of Pastor Writes, I would have landed in LA. This time round, I will be away for 3 weeks to spend some time with Ps. Kong, Sun and Dayan and to preach in New York and Knoxville. I would also like to say a big thank you for your understanding for allowing me to be away for so long. This trip is very important for me because I will be taking this period of time to strategize for the coming year and pray for God’s vision for our church. On top of that, I need to design and put our new church system in place. And Esther needs to catch some new ideas for our production in 2010! So all in all, it is a lot of work! But I assure you that we will come back fruitful! ;)

EMERGE RISING!!! Starting this weekend, a lot of the Emerge competitions would have started. I want to encourage all of you to go all out and win as many medals as possible for your cluster. Besides medals and competitions, I want this year’s Emerge to be the largest ever. So, can I ask all of you to bring as many friends as possible to join all the day and night sessions? Since we are having our Emerge in November, I want to ask you to also invite all your friends from other states and countries to join as well. Let’s believe God that on the final night, we will have 3000 people celebrating and worshipping God together. As we continue to do this, I believe we will slowly but certainly transform our generation for Jesus!

I am on a mission. I want my generation to experience God and engage culture like never before. I hate to see potentials buried and talents unrealized. I want to see my generation do all that God has put in their hearts to do and have all the liberty and support to see all those dreams coming to pass! City Harvest, I want this to be your mission as well. I want to encourage you to inspire others to dream, to believe and to make this world a better place!

First and foremost, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Ps. Joakim into our midst. It is truly a great blessing to have him here with us to encourage and inspire us how to win teenagers and high school students into the kingdom of God. There is an anointing in Ps. Joakim’s life so I want to ask all of you to come prepared to draw from this man of God!

This week, Keith will be running all our services. I am not around as I am preaching for Ps. Andrew Gray in Sydney, Australia. Initially, I was scheduled to speak for him in August but that didn’t work out because I was in Singapore. I will be speaking for him for 2 services on Sunday and after that, I will be speaking for Ps. John Lee of Sydney Harvest Church. My schedule is quite tight for the next couple of months so may I ask all of you to fervently pray and intercede for me. Travelling to other countries is very important for my wife and I because it opens our mind and change the way we think. It helps us to free up some space in our head so that we can have new rooms for creativity. It is like defragmenting our hard disk. Every time I come back from an overseas trip, God would give me new ideas and new strategies for our church. He would show me new things He wants me to do in the coming year and also plans that He wants me to put in place. With this, I am able to keep growing our church and taking it to the next level. I believe this applies to all of us as well.

We need to take time off from time to time so that we may have time to think and reflect, to re-evaluate and change some of the ways we do certain things. This simple step can take us a long way.

Friends, let us unclutter our minds and make room for God’s Holy Spirit to do new creative work in us.

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings in the mighty name of Jesus!

Phew! After 9 days of travelling between Taiwan and Singapore, I am finally back in hazy-but-still-home, Kuala Lumpur. No matter what, it is always nice to be back – nothing beats lying on your own bed and hanging out with all my beloved family and friends! This trip to Taiwan is truly an eye-opener for me. I learnt so much on how to creatively reach out to our family and friends. Traditionally, the approach used for effective evangelism is one that is direct. We preach the gospel and people get saved. Or we go to visit them at their homes and invite them to church. This is still a good approach but it is certainly not the only way of reaching out to our friends.

I want to encourage all of us to creatively reach out to our friends by building lots of bridges. This can be done through doing life together. We can do so by organizing cooking lessons, picnic, Amazing Race, karaoke sessions, wine appreciation, facial, spa, extreme makeover or… just basically everything and anything that you guys enjoy doing. What I am suggesting is that we invite friends to be a part of what we are already doing. On the other hand, we can also participate or organize things that our friends like to do. The whole aim is to make evangelism a lifestyle instead of a program. This approach may not be as direct as the approach used before but I am confident that it can help us to win more friends unto the LORD in the days to come. The world is changing. Hence, the way we win our friends also have to change. But ultimately, we must be sincere. Our love for them ought to be genuine, truly desiring to see them changed by the love of Christ. Well, I once read, ‘You can’t be wrong when you love!’ So, City Harvest, let us practice that. Let us learn to be more accepting, more forgiving, more embracing and more loving as we live our lives to shine forth the love and the glory of Christ.

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings from sunny Singapore!

For the past 2 weeks I have been travelling. Last week I was in Taipei, visiting Ps. Abraham Ku’s church (New Life Church) and also spent some very quality time with Ps. Kong. It was a very fruitful trip as my eyes and heart was opened to a whole new world of creativity within the body of Christ. After that, I spent a week in Singapore, speaking for Ps. Seow How, teaching his church how to creatively reach out to the people in their community. It was another very fruitful trip. I have also brought along our band to minister. I believe they will do a good job this weekend.

Of late, I have been encouraging all our leaders and members to be more involved in short-term mission work. This is very important because it opens our eyes to the actual needs of those around us and infuses in us a passion to continually run this race. The world is lost without Jesus. We cannot lie idle hoping someone will do the job. As a church, as a body of Christ, we need to rise up and answer the call of God. I want to challenge all of us that in the midst of your busyness and the many things that you want to do, please also take some time out to minister to these people. I believe it will energize your life and change your entire outlook about who we are and what we have. At the moment, we have already run 3 trips. And at this point of time, we have a team ministering in Medan. There will be more in the coming months. Next year, I am hoping to send at least 25 teams to different countries in Asia. I want to challenge you to be a part of it. I want to inspire you to live for a bigger vision.

So, church, let’s gear ourselves up for mission and expand the kingdom of God. Let’s do whatever we can to be a blessing to those around us. With this in mind, I am sure we will make our world a better place!

I trust that you have had a good week and thoroughly enjoyed last weekend’s musical, ‘Will You Marry Me?’ Firstly, I want to congratulate all those who have made a decision to follow Jesus. It is my prayer that you remain rooted in the church and continue to grow in the LORD. If you have yet to find yourself a cell group, please let us know. We will try to find a suitable one for you. Secondly, I want to thank all my cast and crew for their hard work and commitment. All of you guys have done stunningly well! It is simply amazing. I am so thankful to have you guys in my team and I am just so proud of you! *Clap* *Clap* With you guys being a part of this team, I honestly believe we will do far greater things for the LORD! By the way, make sure the rest of you buy the DVD and send it to all your family and friends! Thank you.  Thirdly, I want to thank all of you for inviting so many friends to church last weekend. I heard there was one cell group who invited 75 friends to church! WOW! My heart leapt with joy when I heard that. And because of all your hard work and commitment, we broke yet another record attendance. I will have Keith to announce it to you during the service… ;) it is more than 3000 people, so be excited…

I remember many years ago, Ps. Kong told us that revival is spelt HARDWORK. And I am beginning to see it happening! ;) If we truly desire to see the kingdom of God enlarged and see many of our family and friends saved, we must be prepared to work. We need to continually pray for them, reach out to them, do Bible-study with them and disciple them into the image of God. This is not something that will happen overnight. It is a process, a journey that takes a lifetime. So church, I want to encourage and inspire you to commit yourself to do this and finish the race. Don’t just be a good starter! Be a strong finisher as well! If we can commit our lives to do this, I believe we will see our entire generation transformed for Jesus!

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

Welcome to City Harvest Church once again! It is simply fantastic seeing so many of you in church this weekend. As it is a long weekend, we have prepared a host of very interesting programs for your family and you. Firstly, after months of waiting, our annual musical production is FINALLY HERE! This year the production is entitled “Will You Marry Me?” It is a drama dealing with the issues of love, relationships and life, something that all of us have to go through at some point in life. I hope this musical will warm your heart, tickle your funny bones and make you tear a little. I am sure you will enjoy it. Apart from that, I want to ask all our City Harvesters to really make all our new friends feel at home. Be friendly and be welcoming. I guess this is what a family is all about. Secondly, we will be having our family day and blood donation drive on Monday, Aug 31. As we give thanks to God for all that He has done for our country, let us also do our part as citizens of Malaysia to be a blessing to those around us. Let us learn to care for others regardless or color, religion and language. Let us contribute to the common good of humanity.

Having said all these, church is not just a place of faith and work. As a family, we are supposed to have fun and enjoy each others’ company. So, during this holiday break, let’s take time to celebrate and appreciate one another. Let’s take more time than usual to talk to one another, hang-out, have a cup of coffee (or tea) and just do life together in a fun and fulfilling manner. This is God’s original idea – fellowship. He wants us to be people-engaging so that we may discover our purpose and meaning in life through conversing with them. It is God’s design that a part of our dream is attached with our family and friends. And it is because of this, no man can achieve his dreams all by himself. We need one another. We need each other. As such, let’s learn to treasure all the people that God has put into our lives.

But for now, sit back, relax and enjoy the musical!

Welcome back to church once again! First and foremost, I would like to warmly welcome Ps. Troy Marshall, and his family back to our church once again! Last year, when Ps. Troy was here, he preached a very timely and powerful message that ministered to us a lot, especially the leaders. Hence, I am very certain that this year, all of us are going to be once again ministered by him. So, do come prepared. Come ready to receive a fresh word from heaven. You will enjoy Ps. Troy!

Traditionally, August is a very busy month for us. And this year, it’s the same too.  In 2 weeks’ time, we will be having our annual musical production. The musical is titled “Will You Marry Me?” We are believing God for 3300 people in a total of 5 services. I want to ask all of us to start praying and begin reaching out to all our friends. I was here last Monday for the rehearsal. The cast has been working very hard and they are going to come out with a very good drama. It will tickle you, make you laugh, make you cry and make you feel very mellow all at the same time. But I guess most important of all, the drama is very real and it will speak to your heart. So may I encourage you to go all out to bring all your friends to come to church on that weekend? Let’s fill the house of God until it overflows and believe Him for a mighty harvest! Also, we are praying for 100 decisions.

Right after that, we will be having our Family Day on Aug 31. It is going to be a day of fun and laughter, with lots of games and lots of food. So, please invite your family and friends to come and celebrate with us. On top of that, there will also be a blood donation drive. Let’s celebrate while having others on our mind.

I am excited with what God has prepared for us in the coming months!

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

I am not sure how many of you were here last weekend, but all of the 4 services were simply unbelievable! The presence and the power of God were so strong that so many lives were delivered and set free! Both Ps. Mike and Sis. Joy ministered to our church with great anointing and much love. As your pastor, I am so glad to see so many people experiencing and encountering God in a brand new level. Deliverance is God’s ongoing redeeming work in our lives. He wants to set us free so that the growth of our ministry and our lives may not be hindered. And now that we have a new perspective of God and a new position of who we are, let us renew our pledge to God and run with a greater zeal. Let us use our lives to do something purposeful and meaningful for our generation!

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind all of us the importance of prayer. Prayer is imperative because it is our spiritual breath. We need to pray in order to stay sharp and stay sensitive in the Lord. It is through prayer that we hear the heartbeat of God and know what God wants us to do. Prayer builds our intimacy with Him. If we do not pray, we will find ourselves distanced from Jesus and we will eventually burnt-out. The lack of joy in the Lord will lead to the decrease in our spiritual strength! So, start to build and re-build your intimacy with God by having more personal time with Him. Just pray. Just talk to God about everything. He is more ready to hear than you are ready to pray because He loves us. In view of that, we are organizing cell group prayer meeting once every 3 months and church wide prayer meeting twice a month. I want to encourage all of you to make it a point to come and pray and bring heaven to earth!

Let us continually hunger for God and bring the change we long to see in our nation and our generation!

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

First and foremost, I would like to warmly welcome Ps. Mike Connell and Sis. Joy into our midst once again. It is a great pleasure to have them ministering to us this weekend. I believe God is going to renew our commitment and rekindle our fire for Him as His Holy Spirit does a new work on the inside of us. I always enjoy having Ps. Mike in our church as he always teaches us how to be sharper in the Spirit and move powerfully in His power to set people free. Hence, it is my prayer this week that every one of us come with an open mind and a spirit ready to receive an impartation from the LORD. Allow Him to do something powerful on the inside of you! Amen!

Apart from this, I want to ask all of you to start praying and interceding for our forthcoming production in 3 weeks’ time entitled ‘Will You Marry Me?’ WOO! HOO! It will be on the weekend of Aug 28-30. This time round we are believing God for 3300 people over 5 services and a total of 100 decisions. Please pray for all the cast to remember their script, all the technical crew to be able to execute their task accurately, for all our friends to be blessed and come to know the LORD and for all our cell groups to have breakthrough attendances. Also, please pray for me so that I may deliver the Word of God with clarity and conviction. It is going to be one fun and big weekend. I am very excited about it in my spirit. So, let’s start preparing our friends and let them experience church in a brand new way! ;)

Lastly, I want to remind all of us to continue to work on bringing one friend per cell group per month. We have 4 more months left before Nov, so let’s believe God that we will meet our target. Revival is truly a lot of hard work and sacrifice. But the harvest will always be more satisfying and fulfilling than all the efforts we have put in. Amen!

So, let’s continue to spur each other on for greater works ahead!

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

How are you doing? I pray that all is well with you as you join us for yet another amazing weekend! Last weekend was a BLAST! WOW! All the 3 services were powerful and life changing. I am particularly blessed as I renew my mission commitment unto the LORD. On top of that, we also had a very classy and memorable Gala Dinner, as we celebrate 8 years of God’s goodness over our church. (Photos are still being uploaded on Facebook!) I was really surprised by the fact that so many came. Altogether, 1230 tickets were sold and I don’t think any of them didn’t make it! ;) I know all of you have had a great time. Before I left, many had asked me if we will do another one for our 9th anniversary!!! ;) I think it all depends on the size of our church. At the moment, I don’t think there is any hall in KL that can cater for a banquet of 2000 people. But all things are possible. Let’s keep our fingers crossed! Amen?!

Right now, we are coming to the last lapse of the year. In just another 4 months, 2009 will come to an end. I want to take this opportunity to encourage all of you to renew your vision and your passion for the LORD. I want to ask you to stay focused as we finish the year strong. I want all our cell groups to have a target of retaining 4 friends by November. That means we will need to retain one friend per month. I want all of us to start praying for a name and genuinely reach out to them and win them to the LORD. If we can meet this target, we will have 1800 people by the end of the year. Amen! I believe we can achieve this if we put our hearts and our hands together.

Starting this week, we will be having our cell group prayer meeting. Every day, there will be at least 2 cell groups interceding for the needs of each other and the church. I want to encourage you to be a part of this and ensure that all throughout the 365 days of the year, someone will be praying for City Harvest!

First and foremost, I would like to warmly welcome all our family and friends to church this weekend. Thank you so much for taking the time to worship God with us today as we celebrate our 8th Anniversary – remembering God’s unceasing faithfulness and goodness to us over the years! All of us at City Harvest have so much to be thankful for. From just a small cell group 8 years ago where we could only meet our own needs to being able to support world missions today, is a testament of God’s power at work among us.

As the pastor of the church, I want to thank all of you for your faithfulness and commitment. Your sacrifice is not in vain. What we do now I believe will echo in all eternity. Our hard work will be a blessing not just in this generation but also many more generations to come. Our children and our children’s children will reap the harvest of our giving. I know most of us are still young but I really want to impart a sense of eternity into your hearts - to learn to think of not just things temporal but also eternal. The values of our lives increase the moment we focus on the hope of our salvation. It brings peace and hope to all those around us.

And as we journey along this path of loving and serving God and people, may I also take this opportunity to encourage you to enjoy every bit of the journey. This is going to be a long haul. So, let’s learn to enjoy each other’s company as we share our lives and our works together. Do not take your ministry as work but a privilege. Do not take your members as tasks but genuine friendships that will both shape and change our lives. With this renewed mindset, I believe we can run many more years together!

So, let’s celebrate and enjoy all that God has given to us.

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

After spending a week in Taipei, I am back! I was with Ps. Wayne to speak for him over the weekend and also taught in their Vacation Bible School. I think I must have preached like 10 times over the span of 4 days! But it was all worthwhile as I see them so hungry for the Word of God. I believe as they continue to build up the lives of all these young people revival is going to break forth in Taiwan like never before. I want to encourage all of us to continue to pray for Ps. Wayne, Angel and also Eadin (their cute little baby boy) so that within the next year, they will break the 1000 people mark! I am excited!

As for us, the next couple of weeks are going to be SUPER POWER-PACKED! Firstly, we will be celebrating our 8th anniversary as a church next weekend. It is going to be a time of thanksgiving and celebration for all that God has done in our midst over the past 8 years. His faithfulness and goodness to us surpassed all that we ever asked or imagined. And in conjunction with that, we will also be having our Mission Weekend. Every year, we raise money for all the mission work that God has placed within our hearts to do. I want all of us to think beyond the 4 walls of our church building. I want all of us to learn to give and to learn to care. I believe as we remain faithful in doing what God has entrusted upon us, He will bless us many folds in return so that we will always have seeds to sow into His Kingdom. After that, on Sunday night, we will be having our Gala Dinner. We have not done this for 2 years now but I thought it would be nice to come together to just celebrate and have fun as a family. So, I would like to invite all of you to come and join us at Sunway Lagoon Resort. It is going to be a night of suit and tie, dresses and clutches! WOO HOO!

It is going to be one amazing weekend!

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

WOW! Another week has come and gone! Time really flies! But I trust that you have had a fruitful and blessed week with the LORD and your loved ones.

Building relationships is not a one-time event but a lifelong endeavor. As believers, we need to sharpen ourselves to do this well especially with those outside the 4 walls of the church. We need to learn to be the bridge so that we may influence them with the values of God. It is not always that we can lead them to the LORD but we do pray for them. We do not coerce them but we genuinely love them and care for them. For too long, the church has secluded itself from the people that it should influence. Friends, we cannot remain like this. It is not healthy and it is not how Jesus wants us to live. However, too often, we fail to do this because we are afraid that the world may contaminate us. The Word of God promises us that He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world. So, we should go out there with the strength and faith of God. We should always be mindful that the Spirit of God, which is not a spirit of timidity will always be there to lead us and encourage us. This is the promise of God. This is the faith that we can have!

Church, the more we engage the world, the sharper we are when dealing with leaders of the marketplace. We will begin to understand their language and gradually grow in our ability to communicate with them. This is so important because if we are not able to connect with them, how can we even influence them? As Christians, we have developed our own lingo over the years, and without realizing it, this has become a stumbling block for us. So, we need to know what ought to be changed and then proceed from there.
Remember, this is a lifelong endeavor! So, don’t try to learn and do everything tomorrow. Think long-term, think in the long-run.

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

WOW! What else can I say… Dr. A.R. Bernard was simply amazing, phenomenal and mind-blowing! His teaching was so clear and powerful that it didn’t only inspire us but challenge us to re-think our values and our belief system. Dr. Bernard is such a great teacher and last night we saw how the Word of God can transform our lives. So, I pray that all of us will maintain the hunger within us to continually want to have more of the Word of God taught and revealed in our lives. Friends, remember, maturity is a journey and not a destination. So, don’t stop growing.

This coming week, I will be finishing our series on The Christian Mind. I pray that this series will spark a lot of conversations and soul-searching within us so that we may grow in our faith and overcome those complaints leveled against us. As believers, one of the most important things that we must remember is that we can never arrive. We need to keep moving ahead in our faith. So, when we encounter difficulties and challenges, we need to learn to overcome it no matter how difficult it may be. Denial hinders growth and progress in life. Even though it is not very nice when being wrongly accused and criticized, we still need to do the right thing. Phew! I pray that as we learn to do this right, we will continue to bring Christ into culture and eventually redeeming it.

City Harvest, we have grown a lot over the past couple of years. I pray we will put what we learnt into good use. Do not just be a good listener but also a good doer of the Word of God. I know very soon, we will see a revival break forth like such that we have never seen before in this country.

Hence, let us continue to pray for the Spirit of God to continually work in our midst.

Dear Family and Friends,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

First and foremost, I would like to thank all of you for your understanding for allowing me to finish my Masters in Theology. After 3 long years, I have finally accomplished my mission. ;) Also, thank you for praying for me and allowing me to take some time off to graduate in the United Kingdom. My family and I truly appreciate your kindness and love. It was a really good break for us. And… this coming July, I will be starting my Doctorate in Ministry (DMin). It is going to take another 3 years to accomplish so do pray that I won’t throw in the towel half way through. ;)

This week, I am going to continue on ‘The Christian Mind’ series. This is such an important series for us as a church as it aims to eliminate all the wrong mindsets that we have accumulated over the years. Some of the things that we practice or think are so steep in religiosity that sometimes we do not even know it is unbiblical. I want City Harvest to be liberated from the binding, irrelevant traditions of men. I want us to be relevant. However, I am also mindful that we cannot sacrifice any level of truth for the sake of relevance. Hence, this series on ‘The Christian Mind’! I want to challenge all of us to live an unadulterated Christian life – a community of people who are genuinely caring and loving regardless of color, faith and ethnicity. I want us to go out there to show the love of Christ through our words and our actions. I want people to appreciate having a Christian community around them. We used to exert such influence. But over the years, things have changed and we have lost its glow.

Today, I want to claim that back. I want all of us to be in the forefront of changing our world for the better; providing better healthcare, establishing proper education and eradicating poverty mindset. I pray we can see an obvious change in our generation and do something that will make God proud!

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

This week is very special because it is a time for us to honor and appreciate all our fathers. Fathers are very important in our lives because they provide for us, not just material needs but also spiritual direction. They need to work hard in the marketplace to earn money and build us up spiritually at the same time. Their responsibility is heavy. Spiritual leadership at home is a 24/7 deal. He cannot take a break and have a vacation from being our father. It is a big, heavy commitment. As a result of such demands on them, they sometimes find it hard to balance between the two. Very often people misunderstand them, thinking that they are neglecting the family. But the contrary is true. No fathers set out to just earn money and ignore their family. All of them want to do both well. It is the fine line of trying to juggle between work and family that is stressing them out.

So City Harvest, today, I want to teach you and challenge you to look at your dad differently. Learn to listen to what they are going through. Show them more love and understanding. Be interested in what they are doing. Genuinely want to know how they are doing. Fervently pray for them. I believe if we change our attitude toward them, we will soon see the changes in them. Our fathers are very precious to us. They are humans too. So, do not for a split second think that they do not need our love and our attention. Be brave now… go and do something different for them. Show them that you care and that you mean it! If you do all these that I am telling you, I honestly believe your relationship with your dad will never ever be the same again!

Happy Father’s Day once again and make it a memorable one for him…

Dear Church,

Greetings in the blessed name of Jesus!

How are you doing? Another week had come and gone and I pray that you have had a very fruitful and blessed week. Sometimes when I think about it, it can get pretty scary because the days seem to be passing so quickly. Unknowingly, it is already Friday… and then Saturday and then Monday once again. And soon it will be December!!!

We are not getting any younger so I want to ask all of us to really seize our day. If there is a dream in your heart, pursue it. If there is someone that you love, express it. If there is any adventures still undone, go for it! If there is an idea in your mind, say it. Don’t be afraid of what people think. Don’t be easily discouraged by the words of men! There bound to be pessimists. There is bound to be people who will reject our ideas. But my dear friends, we only have one life to live. So why don’t we live it to the fullest, the best we know how for the glory of God? Why don’t we use all the talents and gifts that God has given to us and be a blessing? Touch a life. Heal a soul. Do something that would leave an indelible mark in this land that we love.

Jesus wants us to connect with the world out there. He wants us to be engaging. He wants us to witness to them and win them over. And that is the reason why He blesses us with gifts and empowers us with His Holy Spirit. So my friends, be real when we meet someone. Be sincere when we hang out with them. We have a lifetime to evangelize so let’s do this journey together with joy and love. Don’t rush. Don’t be pushy. Don’t be forceful. Take your time. Enjoy the friendship. Let the life of Christ flow out of you through your conduct and your speech.

With this new mindset, I truly believe our church will become more relevant and more in touch with the world.

How are you all doing? I pray that this edition of Word Weekly finds you blessed and very productive. First and foremost, I would like to warmly welcome Ps. Andrew Gray into our midst. He is the Senior Pastor of Mount Annan CCC, Sydney, a very vibrant and Spirit-filled congregation. This is the first time Ps. Andrew is here so I want to ask all of you to come prepared to receive the Word of God. Don’t just come to be blessed, come prepared to be transformed by the power of God! Amen!

By the way, I also want to take this opportunity to remind all of us that 50% of 2009 is gone. We have come to the 2nd half of the year. Are you still on track with your visions and values? Have you been tracking your growth and progress? If you have done so, keep up the good work. If you have not done so, may I encourage you to take some time out to do so this week? All of us need to evaluate all that we have done or failed to do. We need to improve on our weaknesses and make changes to areas that we are weak in. This is the only way to grow. We cannot continually ignore our shortcomings.

If you have a problem with your spending habit, then perhaps it is time to cancel your credit cards! If you have a problem with your attitude, then perhaps you need to work on your emotions and reactions. If you are not doing well in your studies, then perhaps it is time for you to just stay focus on work on those subjects that you are weak in. Success in life is all about choices. And if you want to see a change in your life then you must be prepared to do something that you have never done before. There can be no achievement without sacrifice!

Lastly, may I remind all of you that this weekend is our WARCHEST WEEKEND. Let’s give what we have pledged to God and expect a mighty harvest from Him.

Dear Church,

WOW! I am sure you would agree with me what an amazing weekend we have had with Ps. Kong! He taught us so clearly on building strong marriage relationship, carefully bringing to our understanding the differences between a man and a woman. My wife and I were very blessed too and after such an impactful weekend, we find our love for each other grown to a whole new level. I pray it is the same for you as well. Remember, we need to work on our differences, manage our expectations and continually give of our best to our spouse. Marriage is never about receiving. It is always about giving and when we are more ready to give than to receive, we will have a happy one! Over the years Esther and I have learnt to put each other first. Yes, sometimes we do have our down time or our ‘nothing’ zone. But if we truly love our spouse and our family, we should take every effort we can to make sure their needs are met and they are always grateful to have married us (MEN)! Amen!? Say Yes!

Well apart from that, I would like to remind all of you that next weekend will be our WARCHEST GIVING WEEKEND. As a church we have pledged close to 600K and I pray that as you fulfill your vow, the LORD will bless you abundantly in return. As children of God, our part is to do what is right and God would do what is best! This is called TRUST. We place our faith in Him knowing that all of His promises are YES and AMEN. He is a faithful God and He would not lie. He will keep His end of the covenant and we just need to make sure we keep ours. I believe as we learn to do this, our faith would be stronger and our walk with Him would be closer. Don’t have a ‘holier than thou’ kind of attitude, only wanting to sow but not wanting to reap. No farmers sow without expecting a harvest. All of us should look forward to a great harvest; be it financial blessing, promotion at work or even a stronger and more loving relationship at home. He is a good Father and He always wants the best for us!

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap!

Hi! How are you? I pray that this week’s edition of Word Weekly finds you blessed and well.

WOW! What an amazing weekend we have had! Amen? I am sure all of us had been greatly blessed by Ps. Pat. I know you have learnt a lot on relationship and also on how to do well in the marketplace. But right now, it is time to put those principles into practice. As men, let us learn to love and treasure our wives. They need all our care and support. Learn to be there for them. And wives, learn to honor and respect your husband. Submit to them and let them take the leading role at home. Yes, it is true that sometimes they do not live up to that. But give them time. Let them grow into maturity. I am sure the model that God has for us can never go wrong.

Church, it is with strong families that we can build a strong church. So, let us position ourselves to always be willing to learn and to grow. It is only through this that our family relationships can be greatly enhanced. Remember - don’t expect your wife to be perfect. Neither should you expect your husband to be perfect. They are not and they never will. As long as we are willing to work on issues together, we will be able to conquer every problem that comes our way. As a family, learn to pray together. Learn to spend time in the presence of God.

And this coming week is going to be another BIG and AWESOME weekend. We have Ps. Kong Hee with us for the first time this year!! This is the highlight of the year for us. So, I want to encourage all of you to invite all your friends to come and be blessed by Pastor’s preaching and ministry. Let us once again overflow the house of God with His people!

So good to see all of you in church again! I trust that you have had a great and amazing week. This weekend all of us are in for a treat as we have Ps. Pat Mesiti together with his wife, Andrea and his wonderful daughter, Sophia with us! Ps. Pat has been coming to our church for many years now and we have been growing and growing in the way we think since the first time he came. Personally, I truly appreciate the ministry of Ps. Pat as he always challenges the way we think and how we should elevate to the next level! And I am sure this week is of no exception either. As we come with a right attitude, all of us will see growth and breakthrough to new heights! The Lord is faithful and He will take us higher!

Apart from that, this is also the first time Ps. Pat taught us on relationship. I am sure all of us have laughed a lot and also learnt a lot. Sometimes it does seem funny the small things that we fail to do but if we do not take any concrete steps to work on them, it can become a full blown problem. God has blessed us with many meaningful relationships in life. It is then up to us how we build on them and treasure them. For me, the most fundamental value in sustaining a good relationship is by being accepting and not judgmental. No one is perfect. All of us sin against God in one way or another. And since we have been accepted by grace, freely given to us, why can’t we accept others unconditionally in return? We are not called to be judges but agents that display the unconditional love of God.

Hence, let us learn to build a church genuinely loving and warm - a church established on the foundation of Christ’s love and forgiveness. I believe this is what Jesus had in mind when He told us to love one another so that the world may know that we are His disciples.

When we love, we can never be wrong.

Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

Phew! I am finally back in our warm and wonderful country, Malaysia! It is just so nice to be home. This time round, I went to speak at Jesus Family Church, Yokohama and also His Call Church, Nagoya. Both churches are very different. The church in Yokohama is more established and has a stronger leadership base. All their leaders are super on fire for God. They are about 200 strong. The church in Nagoya is smaller but their pastor and their leaders have a very big vision for Nagoya. After meeting them and spending time with them, I can see God will use them greatly in the days to come. As for us, I want to ask all of us to continually pray for them as they seek to serve God and minister to the people in Japan. It is not easy. They are very steep in their culture and tradition. But let us intercede for them so that God through His Holy Spirit may bring about a mighty revival in the very near future. I want to ask us to pray for both the churches so that they may have 500 members in the next 3-5 years.

As for the home front, this coming week we will be having the one and only Pastor Pat Mesiti in our midst. He will be teaching 2 nights on relationships and over the weekend he will be teaching us on excellence in the marketplace. As our church move into the society more and more, I want all of us to come prepared to learn and receive wisdom from the man of God. Many years ago, most of us were students. But the demographics of our church had changed greatly over the last 2 years. Right now, most of our leaders are working. As such, we need to equip ourselves to minister to all the young adults of our city. We need to know their needs and be confident enough to meet it. Otherwise, we cannot stay relevant and will be able to effectively reach out to them and win them for Jesus! It is going to be a new and exciting phase in our journey. So let’s gear ourselves for a new season of change and breakthrough. With Jesus on our side, I am sure we can change our nation for the LORD!

Dear Church,

Greetings in the mighty name of Jesus from the Land of the Rising Sun!

How are you all doing? I trust that this mail finds you blessed and well especially after having an awesome weekend with Dr. John Avanzini. Personally, my faith has been greatly enlarged and my mindset towards prosperity renewed. I used to think that it is a very humble posture to live with the little that I have especially after I have pledged so much to God. But after last weekend, my mind is transformed. I can expect God to bless me 30, 60 and 100 fold every time. That it is not wrong to believe God for a bumper harvest and that I should not feel guilty when He prospers me. God wants us to prosper so that we may be a blessing to those around us. And I have since removed that double-mindedness within me. There is now an agreement between my conscious mind and my sub-conscious mind. I know you have experienced the same too. So, let us believe God together for this major breakthrough that will come our way! Amen! And in the coming weekend, after we have tabulated all the pledges, I will officially announce to you how much we have pledged towards the 'WAR-CHEST OFFERING.' I know you are very eager to know. Me too! And I can assure you the exact amount will blow all of us away!

After this weekend, we are going to enter into another very busy and fruitful season. In 2 weeks’ time, we will have Ps. Pat Mesiti with us. He will be teaching us on the principles of relationship and also Biblical Financial Excellence. After that, at the end of May, we will be having Rev. Dr. Kong Hee with us. May is going to be one important season. I want all of us to prepare ourselves right now. Free up your calendar and ensure that you are here to receive the revelation and blessings of God. I am excited about them myself because I know if I avail myself to receive, He will always transform me and take me to a whole new level. Church, may I encourage you to prepare yourself like that? Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

First and foremost, I would like to warmly welcome Rev. Dr. John Avanzini into our midst. This is the first time that Dr. Avanzini is speaking at our church hence I would like to ask all of us to come prepared to receive a fresh revelation from God concerning our tithes and offering and our ability to handle finances.

Dr. Avanzini is the foremost apostle of God in the area of Biblical Economics. Today, almost all the offering passages that churches use to teach its congregation has its origin in Dr. Avanzini’s teachings. His uncompromising stand on tithing and offering has taken churches of the modern society to a whole new level, enlarging its capacity to believe and do more for the kingdom of God. This has greatly transformed churches, elevating them from poverty thinking to a prosperous mindset – setting them free from the bondage of debt and lack!

In the past, the church of God is like a dump site. Anything old like old TVs and old sofas and anything unusable like spoilt microwave ovens would be donated to the church. But is this how the church of God ought to be treated? Is it right for us to offer to God anything that we no longer want? Church, it is so important for us to learn this right now. We need to go a level higher when it comes to treating the house of God. We need to be more excellent in our giving. We need to be more faithful in our tithing. We need to learn how to maintain the house of God accordingly.

This weekend, I am sure all of us will learn a new perspective on all these. I want our church to be stronger in the area of giving because I want to see all of you succeed and do well in life. This is so important because it is only when we are financially free and capable that we are able to sow more into the kingdom of God. And it is through this that the work of God can be enlarged and extended.

Church, let’s learn to give sacrificially yet cheerfully,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

First and foremost, I would like to warmly welcome all of you to our Easter Weekend! What an amazing weekend this is! This year, for the very first time, we are conducting 5 services; starting from Friday night all the way until Sunday noon. We are believing God for 2800 people in total attendance! It is going to be one huge exciting and meaningful weekend for us to come to know and experience God in a real and personal way. Not only that, it is also a good opportunity for each and every one of us to enjoy the fellowship of a Christian community.

Easter. Why Easter? Easter is important because it is the day Jesus died on the cross to pay for the penalty of our sins. It is the day death was overcome. It is the day the fullness of Christ was revealed. Without Easter, our faith in God would be meaningless. Our life would be purposeless. Christianity would just be another social club!

But, very often we hear people say that Christianity is not a religion but a relationship. But what does it mean? It is simply trying to tell us that the death of Christ on the cross has made it possible for humanity to have a relationship with God. Jesus has become the bridge that connects us back to God. Christian faith is faith in Christ. It is not in a set of rules. It is not in a set of principles. Neither is it in a set of right living. It is in the person of Christ.

Jesus said, ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me!’

Friends, Jesus is the door. Jesus is the way. Without Him, we can never do enough to earn God’s grace. Our works would be futile. Today, may I encourage you to invite Jesus into your life to be your LORD and your Savior. And I believe when you do that, your life will never be the same again!

WOW! It is just so great seeing so many of you in church!

Firstly, I would like to apologize on behalf of Ps. Kong for not being able to make it to our church last weekend. Pastor had to fly back to LA to attend to Sun, who just had an operation. And Sun is still not feeling too well. So, I want to ask all of us to continually intercede for Sun.

Last weekend, we had another breakthrough attendance of 1649 people! Hallelujah! God is amazing! We have been growing and growing since the turn of this year. I pray we can keep the momentum and reach 2000 people by the end of this year. Amen. Well, growth is a privilege but it is also a responsibility. That is why I am taking this weekend to talk about the importance of evangelism and winning the lost. It is simply because all of us are called to be soul-winners!

The Great Commission is a command that Jesus left us with before He ascended into heaven. It was not supposed to be a suggestion that we can decide if we want to do it. We have to do it. The love of God compels us to win the unsaved, for without God, all of them will have to pay for the penalty of their sins – death.

Church, Easter is just around the corner. We are going to have 5 services this time round and it is going to be massive. Our goal is to see 2800 people that weekend. So, I want to take this opportunity to encourage all of us to start praying for the names in our prospect list and intercede until we receive a breakthrough from the LORD. I know the goal is huge and it excites me. I believe it excites you as well. So, let us do all we can to bring our friends to church on Easter and let them hear and experience the transforming power of our Lord Jesus Christ!

Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

How are you doing? I pray that this write up finds you blessed and well. Another week has come and gone… time really does fly! And we are almost at the beginning of April, which means only 2/3 of the year is left! Phew! With this in mind, I would like to remind all of us the need to keep pressing on toward the goals that are ahead of us. Do not be distracted. Stay focused. Do the things that you have planned to accomplish. Persist. Do not lose heart. It is usually at this point that many of us forget the goals that we have set for the year. I want to encourage you to be reminded of them again. It is time to re-check and recharge!

In the last 2 Fridays we have had our annual Friend’s Nights. Both nights were simply a blast. Close to 1600 people came for a time of laughter, games and celebration. Not to mention those lucky ones who walked home with new Ipods!!! It was fun seeing so many people mingling around, socializing and getting to know each other better. It is my dream that the church continues to facilitate the society as a meeting place, a place where genuine friendships can be forged. This is so important because Jesus wants us to bless and help those around us. Without any interactions with the society the church will cease to be relevant.

City Harvest, may I encourage you to continue to spread your wings and be an influence for the LORD. I believe if we continue to bring empty vessels before the LORD, His miracles will never stop to flow and our church will continue to grow!

Last but not least, I want to remind all of you that next weekend Ps. Kong Hee will be bringing us the Word of God. I want to encourage all of you to come prepared to receive and bring as many friends as possible to come. Let us fill the whole church with seekers of the Word of God who want their lives to be touched and transformed by Jesus!

Dear Church,

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus!

WOW! What a weekend we have had! Last week's 3 services were just simply amazing, with great presence of God and many lives touched! We have had a total attendance of 1379 people and 42 of them responded to the altar call! Amen. Not only that, I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mui Lin and Eric, Nicole and Cheah Kit for tying the knot over the weekend. It was all one good, big weekend. I am sure those who celebrated the day with them agree with me that it was all very fun and very beautiful.

On Friday, we have had our first Friends night of the year! And it was a blast! So many new friends came from all over the place to be a part of our 'orientation' night. It was filled with laughter and joy as we sang, clapped, jumped, danced and ate! So many hot-dogs were digested!!! Again, it is all good.

It is my vision that the church becomes a place where destiny in Christ may be discovered and meaningful relationships with one another forged! The church needs to be relevant and practical. It cannot just be a place to meet the spiritual needs of the people though it is the main reason why a church exists. It should also be a community - a community of people who care and love one another. I know this is not always easy with our church reaching 1500 people but I want to tell you that this endeavor is worthwhile. Our faith is meaningless without the input and interaction of other people. We cannot grow without accountability and encouragement. So, I want to take this opportunity to ask all of us to increase our capacity in relating and accepting one another. Look beyond our differences and celebrate them as the LORD makes each and every one of us unique. With this new attitude and mentality, I believe our church will grow even further and stronger!

Let's believe God for 1800 soon!
